When my worn out thumbs, wrists and forearms can't push the Bond board any longer I have been putting primer on the aluminum intrior panels using a foam brush.
The exterior of all the aluminum panels will get the home-made Lizard Skin treatment. Hopefully this will keep the heat down in this tiny car with an aluminum interior.

Rainman, good idea. Trunk paint would work.

p.s. There's a new entry at the tail end of the previous page.

A+ and a gold star for sticking with this project. Wow, what a big one!!

Everything is looking great. Cool idea on the homemade lizard skin.

DoorBondo002.jpg

After a little slotting & shimming I got the passenger door centered in the opening. Currently adding a little Bondo to match the contour of the door to the quarter and the rocker panel.

Thanks for the vote of confidence BI. Today I sat on a stool and felt a bit overwhelmed by the remaining work. Thought about packing the project away until the fall. In a few minutes I got over it and went back to work.

Yes, jfg455, it might be wise to have some shine on the wheels as most everything else will be black.

Prime Time!!!
Primed the body and doors today. With good old school lacquer primer. I have a little buzz on as I type this.:p
I shoot the primer when I can't stand to do any more body work. That doesn't necessarily mean it is ready.

Back in the 60's I helped a friend run a C/Gas Willys. At the U.S. Nationals we came up against Hill & Zartman's Willys, The "Filthy '40. That Willys had a primer paint scheme that I have somewhat duplicated on the Fiat. Pork Zartman could really shift a 4 speed. He died about a year ago. The Filthy 40 impressed me so much I wanted to pay a bit of tribute in this way.

looks good! to do something in a "tribute" is awesome in my book

Does that look good, or what !!!!!!!!!! Love the white stripes breaking up the black, very cool.

Now, aren't you glad you didn't put this on the back burner till fall ?? :D

WOW Bob, that paint scheme looks great.!

if you don't mind me asking, your homemade lizard skin, how much did it cost you compared to buying the off the shelf version ?

Thank you everyone for the very kind comments. It is a great motivator.
I got a pair of 16 by 8 wheels for the Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. Not my favorite style but all I could afford right now.
A few weeks ago I assembled a low compression 406 small block Chevy intended for the Fiat. Then I thought it is a better engine for a car that will be driven a lot. So I grabbed all the parts for a 377 sbc that I disassembled a few years ago. Needed to have the mains line honed. The short block is on the stand behind the wheels & tires. Still don't have a good set of heads for it though.
