Long story short, I ended up with a pair of Ford Wide 5's (5x10.25 - 36-39 wheels) in looking for another pair of '40 16x4's. Guy from work had them and gave me them telling me they were '40 Ford rims. In trying to figure out what they are I have since found a line on a complete set with usable drums. I have been trying to find some information on the rims and if they will fit up to a '40 front spindle with '40 brakes.

After doing some digging I really like the look of the wide 5's, just not sure of the compatibility with what I already have. I also have a pair of 40' 16x4's. So trying to decide if I stick with the '40's and try to find some early 40's 16x4.5's or 16x5's. Or abandon ship sell the '40's I have and get the 36's...

Any and all advice would be greatly apprecaited.

'36-'39 wheels are the same, but the '36 hub is a bast@rd that only works on the earlier spindles. '37-'39 hubs and drums are a direct fit on '37-'48 spindles and backing plates. So, if you have a set of '40 spindles & backing plates then yes, the '37-'39 wide five hubs and drums are a bolt-on.

It depends on your preference. '40-'41 steelies are 16x4, '42-'48 are 16x4.5 and the 16x5 were used on trucks and are pretty hard to come by.
