good degreaser/gunky remover??

any really good stuff out there that will remove years of oil drippings and grimey whatever stuff? i have used the typical shelf gunk remover but i dont think thats going to touch what is on the crossmember and surrounding areas that i want to clean up.

The best "gunk" remover I have ever seen is with electricity.

I have an article in the most recent issue of Rod & Kulture (issue #15) on removing rust with electrelissis. No, I cant spell it, but I do it and it works great. It also removes ALL gunk and paint. Its amazing.

You may be talking about a piece that is large, so short of creating a large pool to submerge your part in, it wont work for you. But if you have smaller parts that can fit in a 5 gallon bucket or a 35 or 55 gallon plastic barrel or garbage can, it will work great for you.

Lots of info on the web about this and its stupid simple. There is no toxic stuff left over. Just iron rich water with baking soda in it. You can dump it on your lawn.

Again, all the rust, gunk and paint, gone with no work. The cool thing too is that it will convert some of the iron oxide (rust) back to iron. The converted iron it stable and can be painted over no problem.

Rent or buy a "Steam" cleaner. You're going to have to blast that stuff off. Or a putty knife and good ol' elbow grease.

i use easy off oven cleaner and a pressure washer,or the dollar brand kind,just dont get it on aluminum or paint u want to keep,been the best for me

I'll second that - always does the trick.

Or get a spray bottle at the dollar store and fill it with diesel ( not gas), spray the area frequently for a week to keep it damp. The diesel does'nt evap like gas and will eventually soak all the way thru. Used to work at a detail shop doing all the hot water pressure washing. A '33 Chevy came in to get the undercarriage cleaned for shows but the old grease actually required a hammer and chisel to get off. After soaking for a week the rock hard grease washed off easily.

Use this and a pressure washer and you wiill be done on the same day.No need to soak for days on end.This is all I use and you can see the oil and grease run off as you spray it on.I get it at our local Costco.But it can be orderded through them online.

Castrol Super Clean. Comes in a purple bottle and rules over all other cleaner/degreasers. Also the best stuff I have ever used for cleaning whitewalls...

Yeah, that. And then scrub with a wire brush and solvent. No easy way out on years of build up.
I do use Foaming EngineBrite prior to pressure washing and it helps.

I have been using it for about 8 years now.I dont use any other cleaners other than the Good ol Simple Green.It really work excellent.Just try not to get it on your skin.It will dry you up pretty good.

No residue left.I used it on the Frame, Motor and Trans I did in my 35 and just shop air dryed and shot primer and paint.

Once you try it you wont go back to anything else.

By the way,I dont sell the stuff.I am just a real happy consumer.I just happen to grab a bottle while shopping with the wife one day at Costco quite a few years ago.That was just a spray bottle and tried it.Now I buy it in 5 gallons at a time.I just like to have it on hand.There is nothing I hate more than getting ready to do job and having to run around getting the products to do the job.You usually blow more time running around looking for stuff that you need than it would take to actually do the job.

Thats why I buy it in bulk.I use it to wash down mowers that get greasy or whatever you may need to clean that has oil and grease on it Works real good on oily garage floors also.They come out squeaky clean.Plus all the parts that I aquire that I use on builds.I wash them as soon as I get them.I just like to grab a part when I am working and it be clean.That way my garage floor dosent end up with all that grease tracked everywhere.Plus it keeps the wife happy. If you need to weld on it.You just need to grind away.You dont need to worry about oil and grease contamination in your welds.
