Got a VW qustion.

I found a late 50's VW bug with an oval window and sliding rag.
It has be sitting in the same spot for some time and is missing some parts.
Yhe engine and trans are all there and so is the glass.

I'm not sure on the going price for a rare VW like that.does any have any ideas on how much it's worth ?
Oh and from what i can see there is very little rust on the body but i'm not sure about the pan.

I think the car your talking about should be a 58 or 59.Its a rare one.Its only worth what you actually want to pay for it.IMO I do know when its all done it will bring good money.Are you going to keep it stock or rat it out?I just did some research 1949-1960 had them rag tops.

Those old VW's are bringing more that I would ever pay for them.
Restore it and sell it to a colector...

I saw a late 50's body bring 2500.00 at a swap meet last year.
The car was about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.
No interior, engine or trans.
Minor rust.

My very first car when I turned 16 was a '57 just like you describe. 36HP, sliding cloth roof, oval window, semiphores (turn signals that flipped out of the door post and lit up.

The Cal-Look guys love these earlier versions, so it probably would be worth something. I just asked my Kid, because he has built a few over the years, and just sold the one I got him when he was 14 (he's 36 now). He says he has lost touch with the values and all, but if it has the sliding cloth top and a oval window it can be fairly desirable. The split windows are the real desirable ones, but ovals are pretty good too.

this is just F.Y.I.....but i found one of thoes bugs in the forest with the split windows and it was totaled completly rusted away except for the rear window section......i went home and got my tools and cut out the back window section it had no glass....it was in my shop for a few years but i took it to a bug-a-rama here in phoenix and got 750 bucks for it...the guy said hew as gonna graft it into his later model bug to make it look old

so any old split window bugs you find even if there junk are worth alot

Back in da day there was a guy who made splits & oval panels that u could weld in like that to fake on old Beetle.

Guess they were some of the 1st "tribute" cars!

Well i stoped and ask if it was for sale and it is but the guy wants 3500.00 for it.I know it's worth it but too much money for me.

But if I were too buy it I would do a So-Cal build.

Wow, tough call! I would love to have one of those & would have a hard time seein' it just rot a way too. Make him an offer & tell him to think it over! Sometimes they will come back to reality or need the $$$. Like we say in my business... Your (whatever) is only worth what someone else is willing to pay u for it!
