Getting along on my wishbone drop mount, won't be long before I start putting it back together. Do I grease the rubber sleeve that fits over the ball, or does it go in dry? No grease fitting on the ball cup hat I see anywhere, and when I took it apart it was dry, but then again, it's 66 years old. Any grease that was in there could have dried up. The second cap that I bought to make the mount with, the thin one, had some dried up grease in the bottom of it before I cleaned it, but m original one didn't. So, I don't know which way to go. [S
By the way, the 66 year old rubber sleeve is in excellent condition! Very soft and pliable, I bet the rubber you get nowadays won't be that way in 6 years, much less 66!

I have never greased the ball that you are refering to Bam.
People probably have to keep it from squeaking if it was doing so.
I have how ever used some lube to get the rubber ball over the nob end of the wishbone.
Hope that people reading this post don't take this all the wrong way.
Torchie.

Does sound kinda funny talking about a rubber ball and a knob, doesn't it? [ddd

I was afraid grease might deteriorate the rubber, too.

The guys are right, Ford put them in dry. But buy a new ball cover, if they make them, and "maybe" a little silicone on the outside to keep down squeaks. But I'm not even sure that is a good idea. I think the outside of the rubber cover doesn't move but the wishbone simply rotates very slightly inside that cover.
