Living in america and it being an american holiday. I never really thought of it from an outsiders prospective like that.

Wrong. It's recognized worldwide and here in Canada we call it Remembrance Day. Most of the players were involved in WWII long before Pearl Harbor and the USA. (Canada, again for example, declared war on Germany in Sept of 1939.)

Bob, I don't know about the trains stopping, but we usually have a minute of silence for the veterans, at 11:00 AM, on Remembrance Day.
