I tried the search idea, but I aint that smart I guess.
I have a hesitation in the carb of my 4oo lincoln motor in my rod. I rebuilt/kitted the carb and still have a slight hesitation when I accelerate [800-900 rpm and tromp on it it will die from a dead stop. If I bring it up around 1200-1300 rpm it only slightly hesitates] I have set the timing early, late, on the dot and this does not fix the problem.
I have an adapter/vacuum thing/ emmission crap that was on it stock, but I have capped it off. I have checked for vacuum leaks and found none.
this is beginning to suck, so if you can give any insight, please help me out. thanks in advance.
 
Several things to check. With the engine off, look down the carb, does the accelerator pump squirt gas in the carb? Timing are you setting the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected, and the hose plugged? Is the centrifugal advance working in the dist and advancing the timing? Does the vacuum advance work?
 
What kind of carb is it? Vacuum secondaries? Got a picture of the carb?

One common mistake that a lot of people make with vacuum secondaries is the spring tension. Also if it applies some people disconnect the vacuum break for the secondaries thinking that if the secondaries open faster they will get better throttle response...not true.

Also what do your plugs look like?

The factory plate you're talking about was bad to get holes in them so take it off and replace it with an aftermarket one from your local parts store.
There's a check ball below the accelerator squirters, did you get that back in when you rebuilt the carb. Also there's a check valve, it's either rubber or a steel ball inside the float bowl above the accelerator pump boss, that gives trouble.
Make sure the float level is correct too.
If this is the factory carb with a fuel pump arm, adjust the bolt with the spring around it, so that there's a slight free play when you move it with your finger and thumb then adjust it so there's no slack.
Move the accelerator with your hand and see if the pump is squirting plenty of gas into the venturies.
