Still crazy after all these years!
You can't tell the bore and stroke by looking at the outside of the engine. The heads, intake, carb, valve covers, distributor and water pump choices can make the engine look vintage or modern.
Also, I've run heads that do not have hardened seats for years with no problems. Mainly short hops around town. If you are going to hammer it down the highway for hours there are additives you can use for that occasion.
I should add: The 327 in my '27 Chrysler tub cracked and I recently put a 406 in it. It has a 2.56 rear gear and a 350 turbo with a tall bias ply tire. It was a bit sluggish with the 327 but is now a tire fryer with the 406.
On the other hand, my '40 Plymouth pickup has a 305 HO with a 3.43 rear gear, a 700r4 trans and a 27" tire. That combination performs well. But it sure isn't a street racer.
