How good on gas is your rat rod????

I get about 35mpg out of mine. but I went diesel with 2.46/1 gears, with 20" wheels. 4cyl cummins, cruises at idle rpm at 75. just takes awhile to get there.

My 23 got fantastic gas milage. Usually around 23-25 but one time I got 30 mpg on the interstate coming back from Billetproof. It was light, very low so it had no wind resistance, had a mild 350 Vortec, tall slicks, and 3.00 gears.

My 27 is not so good, probably 10 mpg or so. But I'm running a more modified engine, two 600 cfm carbs, and 4.30 gears. I also have to run high test whereas I could run mid grade or even regular in the 23.

Don't have a speedo or gas guage but I watch how many miles I drive and near as I can tell it is between 5 and 6. I built it to go. 454, dual 4's, 4l60 with convertor and 4:10 gears. Only a 12 gallon tank so I have to watch close and carry extra gas. I have ran out and even when it was raining so hard I had a hard time seeing the front of the hood.

My last "driver" was a '48 F-1 with a Buick nailhead... got around 15-16 small town/hwy. I pulled the original rear in favor of a 9" with a 3.70 gear.

My '55 F100 with a 351C/C-4 got almost 18 hwy... another 9 inch out back but I forget the gear.

My '56 F100 is next in line to see the pavement... I'm hoping for 15-16 mpg with the mild, blown 354 and a single AFB.... 3.54 rear gear with a .75 O/D.

I this is a great thread!
Im building mine on a tight budget, therefore, it's taking 3 times as long as I hoped it would.
BuT I don't want to spend $190 just to drive to a show over there and back. I'd love to get 20-25 mpg outta mine. I'd I wanted screaming transportation, I'd build another bike. This build is about making a statement of style.

I'm running the standard 350/350 mix with 3.07 gears. We'll have to see what it'll do.

Your 250 4 speed with 3.08 gears 28" to 30" tall tires (you didn't say so I picked a gear ratio and tire size) should get you around 15 to 22 depending on how you drive it

also have a 4.3 4 barrel 5 speed, 308, 31 tire, gets 25 interstate 20 town!

My model A has a 6-71 blown 454 with turbo 400 trans and 3.00 to 1 rear and 30" rear tires at 65 mph cruising it gets almost 15 mpg. The carbs have progressive linkage and that lets it run on two barrels instead of eight which is really good untill you get on it hard then the gas level drops like you just flushed a comode .[ddev

My best, 17 mpg. My worse, 9 mpg. Which was more fun? 9 mpg. It's a 300hp small block, 350TH and 3:73 gears with 27" tall tires.

I don't have a rat rod running yet but fuel is important to me, I'm not into setting at shows all day I like going on cruises and taking the family, we aren't poor (not rich either) but wouldn't be able to go as much if we didn't consider fuel. Our '66 Belvedere gets 15-20 (depending on how you drive it) 318 4 barrel, 727 and 2.73 gears, and we drive it somewhere between 3500 and 4500 miles a summer. Must of our friends with toy cars/trucks are lucky to see 500 miles a year and with that low of miles I wouldn't care about fuel prices either.

VERY NICE! I like the 4 banger... I've always been a fan of inlines.

i live in the uk gas is £7 a gal [$11] and i get 12mpg

While sorting out my new engine combination, I ran it out and back a total of 19.5 miles. Used 6.2 gals. I'M WORKING ON IT. I couldn't go to Tired Irons Friday night cruise-in and back without stopping for gas. (Holds 12 gal) But then again, it's a real engine.

Thumbs up for the different than the norm drivetrain combo. I've wanted to build a 2.2 turbo Chrysler powered rod for years, just haven't got around to it yet.
