WOW!!! I had never seen the HP TV build of a "rat rod"! Pretty funny really... just a regular hot rod with an old rusty body & sheet metal floors. Hi $$$ parts, chromed out blown motor, MSD ignition & Auto-Meter gauges. Not a bad car I guess but I got a pretty good laugh outta it! Definitely not a <$3K build!!! ; - >

Yep, I caught that too. Looks like a t.v. ratings thing to me. I don't think those guys are really enjoying that build. Looks like it is hard for them to do it that way. What is really interesting to me, is they are not really covering any new ground. And their sponsers are saying, "wait, how are we going to sell parts, if you just use junk, you have to use the stuff we give you."

keepin perspective

You gotta remember all those shows ,cars, trucks rods, bikes , are just for entertainment purposes. A real builder knows all that stuff and the rest are just watchers, a beginer who was serious would need a lot more info than they give. Dont take it serious its just for fun watching .

What got me is why i can't build one in a hour like they do on TV lol .
Wonder which one of them stole the street signs :)

Yeah... they "bought" 'um!!!

Tiny,
We must all need some lessons because they cut away & went to the Mecom car auction so they really built that car in 45 min. Guess that breaks Austin's 17 hour build!!! ; - >

Dude... they "bought" those signs! Yeah, that's it... they "bought" 'um... just like I did!!! ; - >

Nail on da head!

Bonehead,
I'm sure u r right!!! I'm actually surprised they even let them do a show like that!!! Wonder what they did with that car afterwards?!

What a joke. But like you guys said, the show ended up being the Producers interpretation of what a rat rod is, and how the build would fit in with their marketing goals.

The only good rat rod build I can remember was Monster Garage where they bought that model A and turned it into a rat. But even that show was full of BS, like the comment that "only 30 unrestored original model A's still exist in the world!!" WHAT??????? In that case, I have seen all thirty.

TV car shows are like TV news.........full of drama and inaccuracies.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go catch up on the latest on Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.............NOW THAT"S TV AT IT"S BEST !!!:rolleyes:

I haven't even seen the show, but I've heard about it on the boards. I never take these shows very seriously. But I figure if I'm gonna watch t.v., I usually try to find some kind of car show to watch. Like someone said earlier, I think these shows are for the most part designed for the masses who don't generally build their own cars anyway. They just provide an overview and entertainment and can tend to contain inaccurices that are not widely observed. Some of the drama offered in these shows really is too much for me at times and I have to just turn them off.

I'm sure Bonehead is right on about the parts and show sponsorship. I won't beat them up for that too badly though because I use a lot of new parts. Mainly because there are no old parts in my area, and a few times I have purchased old parts from the internet and later determined them to be unusable after waiting for them to arrive.

Magazines are no different. Hot Rod ran an article on a 63' Nova. The Nova was in pristine condition but it had a small blower on a sbc. The car was owned by a girl. The article went on to say that the car was built by the girl and that she had previously built and race a Dodge Dart.

I knew that girl from street racing. The Dart was built by her husband and the Nova was built by a boyfriend (she was cheating on her husband), she only drove those cars. The article also said that she was building a pro-street 67' Nova. Again wrong! The Nova belonged to her boyfriend who got it as a rolling chassis.

I wrote a letter to Peterson Publishing (Hot Rod magazine) telling them about the descepancies in their article. It never made the editorial page. A while later, I met the publishing editior, who was driving a BMW. I asked about the letter and why it wasn't published. He said their sponsors wouldn't like it.

The point is, there's fiction in all telecomunications.

PS - I offered her Dart 8 car lengths and she refused........

The Horsepower show is kind of a joke. They had the frame of the "rat" powdercoated to look like red oxide primer. The old guy is too busy making silly puns and jokes and the young kid just seems like a guy you would punch in the neck for no good reason.

I kinda like the Musclecar show. They actually seem to show interest in showing how to build something. On the show this morning they took the time to describe how to make bent tubing identical from side to side. Granted they used a TubeShark that cost more than my truck.

I have a buddy who served in the SeaBees with the host, Lou Santiago. He said he was a decent guy who knows his stuff.

Trying to learn how to build a car from an hour long show is pretty much an exercise in futility, but some are more watchable than others.

Paris Hilton and Linsey Lohan are building a rat rod? Now that is actually an entertaining idea.

Being 15 min from Hollywood or Hollywierd as I call it, I see a lot of what goes on. Its all a joke. Just about anything they do follows this format for making money and that has everything to do with what happens on the show. The goof balls will come in with smoke machines and junk like that just to sizzle it up. Now there are some independents that deviate from the "formula" and sometimes their stuff is good...... then they go broke.:D

There is an independ film maker, making a movie with her own money. She drives a 32 high boy, an outstanding car. She comes to the friday night cruise in I frequent. Most of the filming is down at El Mirage with real hot rods. She wants to use my truck in some of the final scenes that will be shot this fall. It might be a good one, we will see.
