just needed to say that. I have worn out my hammer arm. Going to try the tiger torch. I drilled out the perch pin and tried injecting dust off to chill the pin (shrink it) when everything else was hot. Much pounding, no movement. [S

I had a very similar issue with king pins on the 49 axle.

hydraulic ram, and blue wrench, and still had some issues getting them out...

Don,

Thanks for the info. I am going to build one. I actually went to Princess Auto the other day and stool looking at the threaded rod thinking about the pins. Should have followed my instinct and bought some.

I didn't realize pins were possessed, and so hard to get out.[ddd

Things get captured by the "Rust Devils" who won't let go.....

Thanks for the help guys. I got them out. [cl

Hats off to all of you who have made a living that involves removing these things! I might need physiotherapy!!

I uploaded some pictures of the puller, and the ensuing carnage. These things are insane. If I ever have to do this again, I'm going to buy a bigger adjustable wrench. 12" does not cut it.

On the second one I had to weld a big nut to the top of the pin and weld the ready rod into that. Otherwise it just kept pulling everything apart.

Both pins had to be drilled out lengthwise, I then used a bunch of heat and sprayed "dust off" into the drilled out pin to shrink it. The stuff for dusting your computer will spray a super cold liquid when the can is inverted. be careful it makes impressive fire balls if there is open flame. I think in a couple of days the smell of burning hair should go away...
