Had a RAT Rod in the 70's. 66 Stang natural rust
Hello Friends,
I don't really know how I'll fit in but I sure want to try. I'm a 65 yr old
Viet Vet who came home in 1969 and was diagnosed PTSD in 1991.
Don't you just love the governments timing. I walked around Leagally
Nuts for all those years and just thought the world was messed up.
The closest thing I have to a rod right now is a 96 T-Bird found left for dead in a hedge row on a nearby farm. It had 10 yrs of bird dropings, tree sap and mildew on the Peal White paint. Jump started it and took it home thinking I'd have a friend paint it for me. Wife said wash it in one part white vinegar to two parts hot water.
Would you believe I had it sparkleing like new in an hour. "With vinegar"
Has the 3.8L V6 with A/T-O/D that hums along at 60 mph at 2300 RPM in OD.
Can smoke tires easily if I shift it manually. I replaced a few small egine parts and put bushings in the front steering to eliminate the "klunk klunk"
every time I hit a bump. The Vinegar and Water trick freshened up the cloth
interior and the mice moved out on their own. Couldn't take the vinegar I guess.
I set about pulling parts off and cleaning out the accumulated crud and putting them back on before spending any money on new parts. Eventually,
I got to the cooling suystem and had to scrap it all. NOS radiater, water
pump, hoses and prestone and got lucky. The heater core was good and the
A/C still worked. Did brake pads and shoes just to see what I had to work
with and was surprised to have good rotors and drums that did not need
turning. Flushed the tranny and cured the bogging going into OD, which is
why the man said he parked it for dead. 0 - 100 I don't notice anything but
the whistle of air through the engine air filter. That and the fact that it wants
to fishtail and lay rubber for the first few hundred feet.
Took about 2 weeks and $1,200 in parts plus the $600 I gave for it and I
was style'n with purple tinted rear windows. (his) Not my idea. It is illegal
to tint the front seat windows or windshield in Delaware so it looks kind of
half done. The glass in the front half is natural factory tint and the back side
windows and rear glass are purple. The ol' gal just rolled over 146,000 miles and can still pass anything but a gas station.
I love to sit in dual highway crossovers and let traffic get to about 1/4 mile
from me before I pull out and stand on it. Everybody instinctlively moves to
the other lane planning to zoom by me. I think the last one I let catch me
and go by was a Porche Cayanne who would not give up and face the fact
he could not close the gap on me. I lifted at 90 and let him blow by me into
a 45 MPH speed zone and city limits. Damned out of state Yankee.
That and ****'n off the kids with their zoom'y rice rockets is about all the fun
I get out of life now days. I've had 2 heart attacks and a double bypass but
they can't seem to cure me of "right shoe syndrome." From the new guy.
