Went to Mrs Tripper's open house & the owner's widow was tryin' to sell some of his old junk. The tag on this old flattie said it was a '37 Caddy & she also had this old Chev that was orig & in very good shape... beautiful orig interior! Anyway... are these old Cad flatties boat anchors or what?! Has the tranny attached & the tag said $400 but I bet I can nab it for $200. Is it even worth that?! Complete except for carb! [S

Of course it doesn't produce much power but the cool factor is about maxed.
You could be running a flathead Caddie with vertical exhaust stacks.

If nothing else it could be the ugliest flattie I have every seen:rolleyes: Don't know anything about them but have seen a few around. The ones I have seen seemed to run well. Probably not much in the way of speed stuff I would bet.

A guy in our car club has been running one of those in the original car for years with out any real issues...just the normal maintenance stuff

Bob, if that is a 37 Cad LaSalle floor shift three speed, it IS worth money all by itself. That is the most desirable of all the Cad LaSalle transmisions and traditional rodders pay good money for those. They bolt up to later Olds and Caddy V8's, I had one behind an Olds in my 32 rpu years ago. I kick myself for ever selling all of it. That trans was the choice of old time hot rodders and drag racers because you couldn't hurt them. I bet it is worth $ 800 to $ 1000.

GRAB IT !!! As for the motor, depends on what you want to build for it, and how much searching for parts you are willing to do. Not much if any speed stuff, but it would be cool in an old hot rod.

I too would be interested in the transmission. The engines can be cool, but as with any obsolete mill they are pricey and speed equipment is like hen's teeth. Here's a feature story from the October '49 issue Of Hot Rod -

Flatties are awesome!!!!! I want one. If nothing else just to sit on a stand and be a coffee table........ They don't hardly make any power but are super cool!! Would love to have one myself.
