OK so I just have to ask......

does anyone know the story on these? Could you actually buy them? Are there any still around? Did they drive around on that V8 or was it more or less just a golf cart?

They typically don't run at all, basically just giant models.
I don't know where they get the fiberglass bodies though, maybe someone else does.

Weren't they called Zingers? Seem to remember seeing a few different ones on the show circuit a number of years back. A couple of years ago there was a tractor trailer rig of that type making the rounds.

Yes, they were called Zingers. There was four different body styles. A VW Beetle, Corvette, Dodge van, and a GMC Astro big rig tractor. All were built by Chuck Miller of Styline Customs in Detroit during the early 70's. He had a display here last March at the Toronto Performance World Car and Truck show. A very personable fellow, and a joy to talk with.
