I was just thinking about how often I come to this site and check out everyones progress. It occured to me that often I don't comment on all the hard work you all get done!!!
I wanted to let all you builders know, even if I don't comment, or sometimes never comment, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate all the hard work and effort you guy's put into you're rides!!!
My hats off to each and evry one of you!!!

NOW GET BACK TO WORK!!!!

thanks

thanks.:D

gitten' to drive'em makes it worth all the hard work, even if the general public has no clue of how much time & work goes into some of these rides.

it's good to hear from someone who knows and has appreciation for them[cl

Same here, often I will be checking out the progress in someone's build thread and realize I have been watching for months and have never commented  So like Rainman says, my hat's off to each and everyone of you for your hard work and inspiration [cl[cl

Add another "same here" to the lot. I have too many posts as it is so sometimes I don't comment on some things but I appreciate, and enjoy looking at the work that goes on around here. Keep up the good work fellas.

I know the typed word is often taken the wrong way so i'll be careful to try and craft this post making sure I try and avoid that.

It seems like this issue is coming up a lot on here lately. I see people complaining about the low number of comments on their build threads and other members trying to cheer them up and tell them to look at the view count vs. post count. This has happened a lot. A member or two talked about pulling their thread and/or not posting any more progress because they felt like no one cared about their build. Then there was a thread a while back about whether members like other members rides or not.

After seeing all this, having my own build thread and viewing/posting on other's build threads I have to ask, are we seriously that sensitive? We're working with our hands, sculpting metal, welding it, cutting it, grinding it, beating old parts off with BFH's and then we get to RRR and suddenly we're so sensitive that if everyone doesn't go banana's over our progress we throw a hissy fit?

I understand that it feels great to get compliments on our work, i've been there and it's nice, but it has to be earned organically, not by pouting about it and then getting sympathy compliments. And i'm not saying that there isn't great work shown here that goes uncomplimented, there is. But we look at a LOT of build threads and we've seen a lot of great stuff before so it takes something special to get a comment anymore. And if people are wanting a pat on the back for their hours spent behind the angle grinder they need to understand that all of us have done that before, it's hard work but that's what it takes, that's a lot of the fun of it.

I guess what i'm saying is this seems to be a growing trend towards needing approval and if that's why folks are building then they're in it for the wrong reason and this might not be their hobby. If they're in it for the love of the machine and the joy of creating something unique I don't see how they'd be so upset about the approval of others.

Just my .02 -Joe-

I partialy agree with what you're saying, but I believe human beings, as a whole, have an inherant need to seek the approval of others.
But that isn't why I started this, I truely enjoy watching all the builds whether i like the direction they follow, or not!!
Also have learned a great deal in problem solving, and the way others can view things so differently!!
I guess what I'm saying is, I am a people watcher, always have been. And I kind of do it on here. Just recently a couple of you posted updates with pictures including yourselves. That blew me away. You get an idea as to what a person looks like, or what background they come from, just by reading what is written on here. And in the two recent cases, boy was I wrong!!
Thats what got me to thinking about this, I just wanted to let everyone know I appreciate them sharing what their doing with all of us!!!
Hope this makes sense!!!

PS when I say how wrong I was in how I was percieving you, I don't mean that in a bad way. Just had a perception, and was waaaaay off!!!

I completely understand that and, of course, you're right. Browsing builds is actually a pretty great education. And I know what you mean about seeing the person behind the words, it's the same for me when I see a radio personality. We think we're really good at figuring people out through other means but sometimes we're thinking almost the opposite, lol.

This is one hellava great site [cl
I'm proud to be a member and happy to get to participate in all that's goin on :D
We all have the need to know what we're doing is good enough for others, that's how we as individuals grow and know we are accomplishing what we want and use that as a gauge to our project or products outcome.
Every bodies opinion is close to being right but, never completely

I think some of it comes from the new guys like myself..I've played with muscle cars and fast trucks since before I could legally drive, and been welding and fabbing stuff almost that long, but this is still my first build from scratch..I've never built a complete chassis before, lots of firsts building something like this and its really nice to have the blessing of the more experienced builder, looking over your shoulder if you will..A little confidence builder that we aren't about to get ourselves killed by some unsafe decision we made.. I couldn't tell you how many "Aahaa" moments I've had from this site, I try to read every updated build thread everyday, probably should post more, but I do read them..I Love this site!!

jimmy's truck

most of you have read my build thread on my son's truck we finished just this year. his death left a hole in my life l will never fill. the encourgment and help l got from the people here was fantastic.

l did not need the approval of others. l just wanted to share this build with others and it really helped me heal. many people have copied ideas on there own build l used and l think that's great.

the safety thing is also a major factor here, almost everyone will tell ya if they don't think the part, weld or whetever is good enough and will fail and hurts them or someone else.

l have been on several sites over the years and by far this is the best one. l feel more welcome here than any other place on the web. it's like an old pair of jeans that fit good and are comfortable.

It is just the nature of the beast. After you have been on forums for a while you can only say "Nice job" so many times, and then you run out of things to say. That doesn't mean you don't appreciate the work someone did, or didn't enjoy reading the thread.

I had a thread on another forum that got very little response, but had over 3,000 views, so I had to remind myself that people were reading it, but just didn't have any comments to make. It is great if we post something and suddenly you have 100 people patting you on the back, but it is unrealistic to think that every time you add a new bracket there will be something for them to comment on.

Also, like Gastrick said, I sometimes feel I post TOO MUCH. I never want to come across as hogging the forum, but I do like to chime in when possible. And like you all said, I REALLY enjoy reading everyones threads and peeking into your garages. :D

I think the comments help keep people motivated.

Having said that, even if I don't comment, I mean I have been on here longer than many with 1000 + comments, doesn't mean I am not looking.

My opinion....

I think you guys have hit the nail on the head....everyone likes to have someone notice their work....human nature.....to be honest....sometimes I feel guilty if I am off the site for so long and don't always say "howdy" to a newbie.... kind of dumb I guess but it's easy to feel like part of a family of guys that think the same at least in general.... it's not always easy to find a group of people that have the same basic interests....and... to not be blasted if something you've done doesn't meet another person's standards. or expectations....some of the projects on here are truely masterpieces of fabrication and thought...I dig them all in some way shape or form..... As I've said before....it's been MY pleasure to be here.:D....I've gleened a lot of info off this site from people far more talented than I....my hope is that somewhere I've helped somebody as well..... that's the part of this site that is so unique....we've all got something to share and people listen, they can share experience, make suggestions or simply sit back and take it in.....;)

Well guys, I have to admit that I was wondering a bit when I first starting posting in my build thread and not seeing much response. It does not bother me at all now. My thread is more of a record keeper for me to look back at what I have done. Now, would I like someone to respond after spending hours making something that could have been easily bought... sure. But, I get more satisfaction out of doing it than any responses I receive. I see the count beside my build thread and I know folks are seeing what I'm doing. I don't respond near what I should either and I know that. Thanks to everyone who has helped me build my project. Most don't even know they have hrelped me, but they have.[cl

BlackSheep you're a perfect example for me, I'm not sure I have posted on you're build thread, but I check it out nearly every day!
Sometimes if I don't feel like I have anything constructive to say, I wont say anything!! Keep up the good work BTW!!!

As I've stated in my build thread, I know some of what I am doing has already been posted on here before, I mean, look how many trucks are being built on this site, I am not the first. But I started a thread because I like to check out other threads and to me it's interesting to see how different people attack things. I've gotten some clarity from the builds on this site and hopefully I've given some people some clarity on how something could be done. Sure everyone likes to get an atta boy from time to time but that's not entirely why I am building my truck. I am building it as a test to myself and my skills (or lack thereof). I've messed with cars, trucks, stereos, suspensions etc. for years but I've never built anything like my truck. I wanted to improve my skills and prove to myself that I could chop a top, weld this and build that. I am doing it because I love these machines, building these machines and driving these machines and I love it when a plan comes together. If some atta boys come with that then that's icing on the cake! I think I've gotten a good amount of feedback on my build...not a ton but that's ok. I, like a lot of you, am a very busy dude. I am simply not on the computer long enough to see and comment on all I'd like to so I keep that in mind if my build isn't flooded with atta boys when I post an update. I know you guys are checking it out and that's cool. Hell, I've been a member since 2007 and didn't even post until last year! So, I too appreciate all of the hard work that is going on here and as I've said before, it is really cool that we can see, do and share so much of our hobby from our ez chairs and computers. Now go build something![;)

Thanks Bud, I'm really diggin all the builds on this site.

Hey!! Why are you guys reading this when you can be commenting on my thread instead! :D Ha just kidding! :D

I have a tremendous amount of respect for each of you. I've gained more knowledge by reading through each of your threads than I could have any other way. I try to comment and ask question when curiosity strikes. My morning routine has been to check work email and then check all of the different build thread updates when I wake up in the morning. Same thing goes for lunch time as well.

Everyone please keep up the good work!! [cl

-Troy
