I've been trying to decide on whether or not to keep my engine, it currently has the original 4.8 liter Flathead v-12. I plan on making this into a daily driver so i would like to have a reliable engine with a decently price parts group available.

I'm considering either just keeping the v-12, 460, 440, Flathead v-8, or 350/351.

what are your thoughts?

If you're looking for a dependable daily driver I personally wouldn't go with a flattie and would opt for a modern drive train. Just consider: old motor, old tranny and old rear end. Not a good recipe for reliability IMO. With a beautiful car like that I'd stay FOMOCO. You can find a decent drive train in a junk yard or in a running car/truck for far less than you could make all that old stuff good. I'd also update the brakes too. Just my .02.

Here's a rebuild kit for your current motor.

Well it may not be the most practical answer and based on the poll results I am in the vast minority, but I would try to stay with the Lincoln V-12.

Something like this is beautiful.........

of course if i did remove the v-12 would anyone on the forum here want it? if i am going to remove it, i'm going to do so this fall

I've got to agree with Gastrick. I can understand why people say "old engines arent reliable" But a rebuilt old engine is a beautiful thing. Seriously, they were dependable when new, right.

The downside is if your running it as a daily you may have a hard time getting replacement parts right when you need em, as opposed to say a SBC.

Another minority vote for the V12. That body Lincoln is one of my favorites. Rebuilt properly, reliability shouldn't be a problem. Only downside is the parts availability. And that could be worked around.

I say use a sbf, but DO NOT ditch the V12!! Hold on to it for either another project, or start rebuilding it bit by bit now and then put it back in it's original home later on after you have a new DD.

If you do decide to get rid of it, one of the motor mongers on here will snatch it up and then you'll have to cry every time you see how cool it is in someone elses rat!!

im hoping to rebuild the vehicle enough in the next 2-3 months to take it on a drive back home, problem is it that is about a 4000 mile round trip, the reasoning for me keeping it, is i dont think i could finish an engine swap in that kind of time

the trip is 1800 miles each way, plus any other driving i do, from barksdale AFB to Proctor VT. and i will be pulling the engine, someone offered me some money on it and i told him to give me a few days to think about it, so look in the parts ads beacause im listing it in there for the mean time

heres the engine
