i have looked everywhere and cant find a straight forward list of the stuff my "new truck", upon completion, legally has to have .. for instance -- does my windshield need to be a certain size --- i havent even been able to find anything saying i have to have a windshield at all --- but i have to have windshield wipers?

anyone know where i can find a list of stuff like that for TEXAS?>

Did you check with your DMV? Ours has a "guideline" to use, but it seems to be up to personal interpretation of whoever happens to be in the lane checking your vehicle!.. Good luck and keep us posted with whatever happens...CR

I'm not a lawyer, but I do play one on TV. Best check with your local folks. All states are different. I know here in Wash. the windshield has to be a minimum of 6" and if you have no windshield you have to wear eye protection, (i.e.goggles). And you have to have something that resembles a windshiel wiper, if you have a windshield.
Good luck and keep us posted as to what you find.

hi cylcedog.
no, you don't need windshield wipers if you have a windshield in washington, it falls under the same law as no hood or fenders. you can only drive on days there is no chance of rain. l know, l have had several discussions with the local law enforcement.
l have two cars that fall into the fair whether catagory and carry the RCW's with me.
saved my butt a couple of times.

Later:D

I did some asking around when I lived in Texas too. I think the first list you need to follow is what the safety inspection requires, but even they couldn't tell me if I needed fenders or not. Yes they do require wipers.

police officers

im pretty good with the police in my town and asked em what they thought ... said theres no real laws about it really -- and you dont really need windshield wipers unless its raining or there is moisture to remove from the windshield according to them ... i want to have a windshield ... just tryin to find out if there was size requirements and such ... stuff like that i should know before i start my new build

Yep. I don't wanna do a super chop only to find out Johnny Law says my windshield is too short and I need to raise it up 2"! Then what - roadster?!?

i really want to get serious with the 46 chop like 6-8in in the front and half an inch shorter in the back and see if i can channel any after that :) im on 5'4'' so wth right

The old standard for windshield height on a chop used to be considered the length of a dollar bill in many areas. Texas is more worried about you having insurance proof than anything, they don't even care about looking at your registration.
One thing I did find out is there is a great inconsistency from one DMV to the next. Ask around and find where the other hotroddres and old car guys go, might be worth while to get your title in a different town, requiring a mailing address in the same town (county)

Good advice![cl In little Delaware I go to the DMV close to me and they turn me down, drive 30 miles to the other one and they pass me, only checking things such as turn signal, horn, lights and other safety features. It pays to go to different ones...CR
