Is there not a cotter key in the end of the tierod end? Should be able take out the key, and the end cap screws out. This allows the outer spring and ball seat to be removed or at least slid back out of the way for the steering arm ball. I have one of Bratton's cataloge's, I'll see if they have a picture.
The ball fits into the side hole but the spring and cup fit into the housing
blocking half of the hole. The end plug and cup screw into the end but go on after the ball is in place. Looks like there must be a tool to force it over the ball but i cannot find any info about tools or techniques. Thanks
AHA! Getting some light down in there i see the grease fitting threads are protruding into the housing keeping the spring from sliding all the way down.
