motor size queston

just got a 307 out of a 1986 chevy caprice wagon . freind of mine got the car to demo so pulled out motor to put his in. runs good but the motor looks bigger then a 307 how can i find out what size it is have picks

Get the serial number off the deck and GOOGLE it , when all else fails thats what I do .

That looks like an Olds motor to me. If so behind the water pump is where the number is located, if the last one is a letter you have a big block or a small block is a number. Olds FAQ has lots of info if is an Olds motor

307 olds motor

i looked at the numbers and i google it lots of info on there . it is a small block small block measure 12 inches across and big block is 14 inches across the manifold to heads thanks for the info nice to go to a site have people help you out .great place thanks again

That is NOT a SBC 307. It looks like an olds motor and could be anything from a 260 to a 403. GM used whatever they had laying around in the 80's just to use up left over motors.

Olds did make a 307, not just Chevy.
