Hello all,
Well... moving has taken it's toll on my poor old bones. I cut my ankle, stabbed myself in the hand, a train nearly hit me & the RR crossing arm hit the top of my PU & my cat cried all nite long... blah, blah, blah!!! Hopefully I will live through this & have internet service shortly. I must have lost my mind & had obviously fogotten how bad it was the last time I moved... I hate it!!!

I feel for you Bro. I've moved a lot in my lifetime (twice across country) and it seems the short moves are the worst. At least going cross country you load everything at one time and unload one time. On a short move you keep making trip after trip after trip after................

Sorry to hear about the injuries, but you escaped the big one with the RR crossing  I know what you mean about the cats freaking out. Our one cat walked around in a daze for the first few days, and the other one hid in the corner. :p

Hope it ends real soon for you.

Don

the absolute worst move i ever made was to the house just next door from where i was living ....no truck involved ,everything including old car parts had to be hand carried from one house to another .

Good luck to ya Trip!

I know a little about moving. When I was a kid we never stayed in one state for more than a year, I have lived in each and every Southern State (some more than once) and the longest move was from here to Tacoma, Wa. for 2 years and back.....that is a lonnnnggg car ride, especially with 2 small kids and a cat. I am here to stay!! Like the song...."Sweet Home Alabama!"

Hope it is all over with soon.

i feel for you dude, i used to think moving was fun as a kid but as soon as you get older and moving is all on your shoulders....uggghhhh....i hate it. I've done long moves and moved from one apt to the apt across the complex. The short move was the worst, we lost our pet turtle during that one, my wife was so upset i had to bury him and put on a funeral and everything (it's was my fault too :().

I use to help relatives and in-laws move all the time. But when it came to me moving, I only had 1 brother to help (I have 3 brothers). My wife is tiny at 4'10", 95 lbs, so she wasn't any help. Fortunately, we only had a 810' sq ft house so there wasn't much to move.
Yeah, moving is a pain but it sure lets you know who your real friends are. Anywho, hope the worst is over and you recover soon. Best wishes.

I always say I would rather take a beating than move. Sorry to hear you seem to be doing both. Hope you settle in and get a chance to rest and heal soon.

i hate that, same thing happens to me every time, except people want me to bring my truck too. the last time i moved i had to actually get on the phone and yell at people to get them to come over and help; i wouldn't normally do that except they said they would help so i didn't enlist anyone else and was all by myself.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean about friends. They scatter like cockroaches in the light when moving time comes, but I have helped tons of them move.

One time we helped my buddy and his wife move, our whole family dug in, even out little kids. Trouble was, his wife SAT ON THE COUCH THE WHOLE TIME, EATING COOKIES !!! Needless to say, my wife was livid.:eek:

I think its a universal thing to hate moving. I really should know. (about 20 in the last 30 yrs - 20 of those Army yrs). Bad thing is may be moving again in the next few years. Or whenever they move Tank training to Ga. Glad move is getting done. Take care of those injuries, Trip.

Short move

Don when I moved two blocks down I went to WAL-Mart and bought four new red wagons
I then toke them home and assembled them and hired 8 kids to pull and load and unload them
I was done in two days
and it cost about $200
I saved all the car parts for the last day
Those kids were covered in grease and dirt and I got my rear chewed out

Eh whats a cockroach?????:D don't have em here.

Tripp,
I can feel your pain. Last time I moved was 18 years ago. Told my wife ain't happenin again. Went from a 3000 sq ft house to a 1000 sq fr mobile. Boy we had alot of crap. Wouldn't move back to the city for nuthin.

Heal up and relax.

He lives!!!

Well... after 2 weeks of gettin' ready & 3 daze of moving we r *finally* moved in! Went to bed @ 10pm last nite & slept til 9am this morn... that is the most I have spept in decades but today I am @ least feeling sub-human... sorta!!! Now we just have to unpack!

Later...

Glad y'all are done with the move! Now it is on to the next month or so to unpack.....
Good Luck

yeah, bet you can't wait to get the new garage set up! who needs a house, just sleep on the creeper underneath one of your project cars.

I can tell you about moving. I leased on with North American Van Lines some years ago. I'd load a house a day for five days, travel all weekend and unload those same houses the next week. Yeah, I could pack five, three bedroom houses in my forty-eight foot van.
Cat story:
I packed a family in Topeka. The whole time their little eight year old girl kept asking me if I had seen her cat. I gave her one of the North American teddy bears, (moving is traumatic for kids). I arrived in California on monday to unload, and opened the back doors. The cat came staggering out screaming "F*****G MEOW". It had been locked in the van, in the dark, all weekend, being bounced around as I drove. We had a hard time convincing the little girl that I did not make her cat magically appear at the new house. I still get Christmas and birthday cards from them.
Here's a tip for moving:
Move all the light stuff yourself in a pick up. Lamps, clothes, food, cleaning supplies, loose stuff. Things you can pick up with one hand. Then call a moving company to handle all the heavy stuff. They have the truck for it and they're geared for it. Take out the furniture insurance policy. When it arrives look for new scratches or damages. Use the insurance policy, it will be applied to lower the moving bill by at least one third to one half. Sure, it will cost a few hundred dollars to move. It's better than thousands of dollars in medical bills, lost wages, and a lifetime of back pain.
