I will be moving from Davenport,IA to Moumtain Home,ID and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good shipping companies that would takenmyntruck out there. I will be driving my car there and have no way right now to get my truck out there. It is a 1960 ford F100. I would really like to get it out there. Any comments will be appreciated.

Their was a post in the last few days on how well his bus was deliverd and how he found his shipper. do a search you should find it. Also welcome to RRR any photos of your truck?

There was a member on here who posted about hauling vehicles for hire.
When you do a search ya might get that result too.
Welcome to the site if ya decide to stay :)

Welcome to RRR! No offense, but I've seen your truck (cool, but not $$$) so I wouldn't bother paying to haul something with Iowa rust to Idaho. From what I've seen on RRR, there is a lot of solid tin out there for ridiculously low prices compared to what we see around here. Stuff like our trucks would get sent to the scrap yard out there! The money you save from not transporting it and the sale will probably get you a killer ride out there. Don't take my word, see if you can get some input from a few guys that live out that way.

(Check the links in my signature to figure out who I am - we just talked a couple weeks ago)

Keith used to have a list of shippers on Fordification, you might check there. Make sure you get a reputable one with good insurance. I have heard horror stories of lost cars and damage that never got paid for.

I had a pickup hauled from Los Angeles to Omaha (close to the same miles) and it cost me about 900 in 2005
back then the auto auction was paying trucks .30 a mile per car on a load of 14 to 16 cars and the 900 i was quoted was for a running truck that can go on a big transport.
freight brokers are crooks and the insurance is on the trucking company which isn't going to make much.
the broker has zero responsibility but if you don't deal directly with a carrier yourself and stipulate no brokers or re brokering the load then your going to get with a broker.
They made some changes to the commercial authority few years ago.
More big government protection for big wallstreet.
the increased the brokers bond from 10,000 to 100,000 running most brokers out of the market or requiring them to become an agent under a large corporation's broker license
Carriers (trucking companies) are no longer allowed to ship the stuff they contracted to haul on another carrier. They either have to haul it themselves, or release the contract.
That is unless that trucking company is rich enough to pony up 100,000

there is a website called central dispatch where all the hotshots and car haulers go to to find loads
http://www.centraldispatch.com/index.htm

Expect to pay anywhere from $1.00 to $1.50 a mile.
1482.14 miles from davenport to Mountain Home
If you can get it shipped for 900 to 1200 going through a broker.

I had bought an 85 f600 with a 20 foot flatbed a few years ago
i was looking at $3.50 a mile to flatbed it from Denver to Omaha
i ended up driving my pickup truck out, stopped in Fort Morgan and bought a tow dolly for $1200

And had a hitch put on my f600 and burned $300 in gas coming home
maybe towing your car with the truck would be cheaper?

I love this thing you can fit a 4x4 or a full size van on it. The builder designed them for towing Hummers behind motorcoaches

About 8-10 years ago I bought a 69 crew cab Ford 2300 miles from home. It was going to cost $1000 to get it hauled home by a transport and I factored that in to what I was willing to pay for the truck. I messed around and didn't get it shipped for about 6 months but ended up going after it myself. I got on the HAMB and got a 34 Ford chassiis to haul from Texas to Palmdale California and another haul of a 63 Ford wagon from that area to Washington, about 75 miles from my crew cab. It was a fun trip, lasted about a week and I got home with my crew cab and $450 to the good after expenses. Plus I picked up some cool tin in Oregon for free.
I did make sure the people I was hauling for agreed their stuff was not insured by me since I was not in the business to carry things for money. And that it was an open trailer. It's still a little dicey legally. If you are taking someone's money for a service provided, they are protected by certain laws. And a licensed carrier can rat you out, had that happen once years ago. I was hauling a few cars a year for money and didn't have comp plates, local towing company ratted me out and I got nailed.
