I traded my model A coupe for a big ol' buick.... 2 reasons....wife, and child.

After getting my coupe running and driving, my 4 year old son was so excited, BUT, the more I thought of driving him around in that car, the more I cringed... I wasn't scared of the car or anything, but the thought of other bad drivers entered my mind. There just wouldn't be any chance of surviving ANY accident without some type of injury...Well, my mind is at ease now, and the whole family can go, if the mood strikes. Introducing... the Byoooick. A 1955 buick special, 2 door sedan.

This car runs and drives really well, aside from the occasional bumper and frame scraping...it has the original 264 CI nailhead, and a dynaflow that works well.

Boat!

Bomb,
That's a big old boat & bad drivers will have a hard time gettin' to ya in that thing. I feel the same way about my car. I'm not really afraid to drive it around but really am not comfortable lettin' others drive around with me. Good choice!!!

Surprised to hear that you sent the Model A down the road so soon after getting it going. That Buick was a good choice. It's cool.

i feel the same way about driving around in my 59 pontiac..my son has out grown his car seat...i had it rigged up in the back seat...he is 4 soon to be 5 and with no seat belt that thought crossses my mind everytime we leave in it...gonna have to rig up some belts very soon..

I've got a '55 myself with the 264 (needs a rebuild). I think these Buicks are sooo cool! Nice car.. ride the tires off the thing. Don't worry about others... it will suck the joy out of the whole experience.

Nice choice on the Buick. And having that Nailhead makes it soooo much better. Now the whole family can enjoy.

Therapy!

Oh grief! I thought I was just me... I love driving my car and I love driving the local kids around the green (our house is at the end of a no exit road with a loop around the green - and i take them out for birthday treats - as long as mum or dad say OK) as it is quite but I aways feel nervous with anyone on an ordinary road or motorway there are a lot of rubish drives out there - I know - as most of them end up in my companys panel shops.

A couple more pictures....

It had this striping on the trunk....

So, I tried to make the hood match, sort of........

I think I may actually try a couple of spring spacers in the rear, I can't even get in my driveway without scraping...

Nice Buick. I've always had a soft spot for the bufords and oldsmobiles of that time. Looks like you made a great purchase. Why did you think the model a wasn't safe? ......CR

Nice choice! I love those old Buicks. When I first got my license, long ago in a galaxy far away, the old guy across the street had a bad heart and wasn't supposed to drive, so he had me drive where ever he had to go. He had a 56 roadmaster 4dr hard top had about 30,000 on it, black and white. I couldn't wait for the phone to ring to make a trip to the store, dr office or the best...take him to his stepsons...a 200 mile round trip. When he passed the car came up for sale, but I couldn't come anywhere close to getting the $800 to buy it. I guess the best part was being able to spend some quality time with a really cool person.

You got a good one there....enjoy.

You've got a fine machine there. A bonus hidden CD player AND a Little Trees air freshener too!

Just the physics of weight and momentum I guess. I had no fear that any work done on the car was inferior or anything like that, it was a well built car, but in any accident, no matter how minor, I couldn't see me or my son (4 years old next week) coming out uninjured. I do not have that fear in the buick.

I'm a safe driver, I drive for a living more or less, about 45,000 miles a year doing fiber optic work. But I have no control over anyone else out on the road, and I just didn't think it was right to possibly put my son's life or health at risk because of a cool little hotrod. There is no way to keep him from wanting rides either...( and I don't have a problem with that...he even has his own project truck, a 1950 chevy)

After I spent the time to type this, I thought about the Harley and sidecar we ride around in...it's pretty unsafe in the above situation, but sometimes there are things in life that I can't part with....

Sweet ride! I love old Buicks. My first car was a '54 Buick Super. I pity anyone that would hit it. That thing was a tank. Wish I still had it.

sweet rig man i dig it. as for the scrapping problem...just bag it, lol raise it when u need to and then slam it!. lets see some shots of the model A for us noobs who dont know ur ride.

I'm a big fan of the Model A, but there is just something about those 50s Buicks that gets me every time. Great score. Awesome car.
