buy some 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" steel rod at lowes-osh-etc., you can install those one at a time across the opening vertically or horizontally. play with spacing until you figure out how you want it. then paint them all one color or alternating colors? red black red black :D i want to do a grill like this for my truck with the lights recessed behind the bars. I think i'll leave my bare to get that evil rusty look. (if i ever to get work on it again with the way things are going on my vette :D)

that orange one is FUGLY!!!!!

I'd stick with round lights and recess them behind the grill instead of cut-out. also, i'm thinking more along the lines of re-bar instead of nice chromed smooth rods.

i do like the second one though, a car grill might be a good idea, however that one makes it look like a ford which i don't like (even though i do like 50's f-1's)

really digging the drawer pulls, that may be the way to go flat if you like the look.

Are you sure ? ... Honestly , JOE , I'm not convinced on this ... this is "close" to what you're thinking ...

The draw handle post from earlier ? ? ? .... imagine them in rows , horizontal , possibly stagger each row - long row / short row / long row / .....

I have a pic on my puter at home of a nice grill treatment on a truck that I like. I'll look it up and post it when I get home tonight. Flat, you could do a "Bonehead" style spider web grill too.

I'm liking these ideas. I had thought about the rebar idea but don't have any at the house. I had also thought of the "Bonehead" style spider web grill but kinda like the idea of everything disappearing behind it, or maybe being more symetrical.....

I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

Keep the ideas comming.

I like Cappy's idea of the older car grill. This is one of my favorite grill treatments in a truck. Although it's nothing like you are contemplating Flat, I just thought I'd put it out there.

1964 Olds grill in a Ford truck...........

I saw one made of a bunch of strands of barbed wire , it was attached to angle iron on each side , and as an added bonus if anyone tries to mess with your engine , they will still be there when you go to leave for work in the morning......

Gastrick or bonehead,
Can you either one of you do me a favor and help me put this idea in to perspective? I like bonehead's idea of red over a black background in the webbed design. Also like 24Dodge's idea of barbbed wire...Can one of you guys black out everything in the grill area of my truck (headlights included) and do the red webbed design in barbbed wire.

I want to get an idea of what this would look like.

Anyone else is more than welcome to play around with ideas as well. Keep in mind that I am "FLATBROKE" and want to use what I have on hand here at the house.

Grill grate (from bbq grill)
Tread plate aluminum (might have enough to do the bed and grill)
6x9 speaker covers (if i have to make headlight bezels)
Regular screen from a screen door (that can hide everything)

oh i think round lights would change the look big time
one big one on each side or 2 smaller round ones would really make the dark and sarcastic one look awsome

Bonehead,
I have single round headlights.
That is exactly what I was talking about. Using the screen that I already have to hide everything in the grill area, and use red barbbed wire (in the webbed design) to make it all look MEAN.

Joe,
I wish I could get my hands on some razor wire.

Motomech,
I'm going to have to take some pics of the speaker covers that I have so you can see what Im talking about. The truck came with single square headlights, I could use them to make it appear that it had oval ones.

i can't wait to see what you come up with flat. you have the ability to take the most ordinary off the wall objects and use them to do some pretty cool stuff to your truck.
