Hi Guys and Girls, I'm new to the forum. I live in southeastern N. C. in Jacksonville. I'm 60, act 20, and love all older cars. I have a 30 Model A hotrod and just pulled a 50 Chevy truck out of a barn after 33 years of slumber. I want a ratrod but this truck is to good to rat. I'm going to put it on a S10 frame and chop the top 4". I want to paint it back like I found it because it was a friend of mine's shop truck. The doors still have his advertisement on them and they are so cool. He was a mechanic here for 50 years. He died 3 years ago and I bought the truck from his wife who is also a good friend. I've never chopped anything or even welded anything. I want to do it all myself. I have plenty of time and have some cool cars to drive in the mean time. I just bought a 180 Hobart MIG welder and am going to practice with it. Several fabricators in town have told me that I can't do it. That just spurred me on. I've been collectiong parts for a month and am going tomorrow to buy a 350 roller motor with 355 HP. At first I was thinking a big block but with my limited experience I think the 350 will go in with a lot less trouble. I'm going to need a lot of advise so you'll be seeing me post here often. I'll post some pics of the truck and my hotrod. Harleyboy

If someone can help me with these pics I would appreciate it. Thanks. Harleyboy

A few more

Here are some more pics of the rod and a friends 53 Chevy truck. He was building a pro street but it's going to be a drag truck only. It's got a 565 Dart motor in it. It's scarry fast.

One more

one more and I'll quit. I have skulls airbrushed in the flames. People don't see them until they look real close. Harleyboy

Who in their right mind would put a skull at the front... of... oh, wait a minute I have one too. I dig the skulls and flames. Two of my favorites for any hotrod. I like that old Chevy truck too, seems to be alot of that going around lately. Esp. like the doors.

Welcome to RRR harleyboy. Nice pics. Well at least till you posted the last one :p. I think a big block would fit in your truck without difficulty but either way it's a cool truck with personal history to you.

Another AD trucker !!! Welcome to RRR, harleyboy. That '50 is gonna be cool. A big block will fit but, nothing wrong with a small block. As long as it's not tore up, the original frame is good for building a rod out of. Little bit less work than the S10 frame.

those flames are freekin cool, love the rod and the truck has potential. The more people nay-say the more it motivates me too. I hate being told i can't accomplish something. Ask away and welcome to the forum!

Welcome!

Thanks for the comments

Thanks for the comments guys. I drove 225 miles today to pick up a motor that I found on Craigslist. I thought it was a 350/355 HP but as it turns out it's a 305 and he contends that it was dyno'd at 355HP. It's a newer crate motor with center bolt valve covers. I don't like the center bolts as well as the older style valve covers. I'm going to take it to a friends dyno and see what it does have. It has 500 miles on it and was built a year and a half ago. The car it was put in was wrecked and this guy bought it for a project that didn't materialize. The motor looks good and has a serpentine set up on it. It's complete except carb which I have. I paid $700. so I hope I didn't get ripped off. I got an extra starter, mech fuel pump, alternator and a new AC compressor. Well, I'll let you know how it dynos. Harleyboy
