So a coupla weeks ago I was talking to a guy at church that has a farm. I asked if he had or knew of someone who might have a Chevy truck with a 261 six.

He said he had a 62 pickup that had that engine, the truck had been stolen and he recovered it. Of course I asked if he would be interested in parting with it. Said he'd think about it.

Last week he tells me he aired up the tires and dug up the title and said he'd bring it on one of his trips to town. Kinda caught me by surprise, I asked what he needed for it and he said he'd probably never do anything with it and told me I could have it, as in give it to me.

At this point I didn't ask about condition or if it were a 1/2 or 3/4 ton etc.
This is what I found when I got home from work. It's a 3/4 Ton long box step side and except for the drivers door it is very straight and a 4 x 4. The gears in my head are already working overtime as to what to do to it. All I wanted was a 261 six. But now....................

work truck?

A. make a great work truck if ya a few acre's of land and need a tow/hauling rig.

B. pull the motor and pass the truck to someone who will use the body.

C. sell it and just buy the motor and trans ya want.

Later:cool:

Great score CD....I think I would use it as a daily...love the looks of the 60's trucks especially the 62's...my first truck was a 62...good luck with whatever you do.

It would maka one cool part chaser. And if something is back in a framers field you have the 4 wheel drive.

I'm with you HOT40ROD, I think it would be a great parts chaser/gopher truck. Pull out a 2x4 and toilet plunger to straighten out that door and run it as is. Good patina, and if he drove it to your house that's road worthy enough to me.

I found a truck just like that in a scrap yard a few months ago, guy wanted 700 for it, and it was 2 wheel drive. Thought about scooping it up but didn't. I counter offered at 13 cents a pound but he wouldn't go for it.

good looking truck! Id straighten the door out a bit and drive it..

Yup, figured it would make a good storage unit until I need the engine for other purposes.:D

You know, that guy would be grinnin ear to ear if he saw you pull up in that truck one day sporting a straight door. Sometimes we find stuff that's just too nice to part out. I'd bet that's why he gave it to you . Just to see someone do something with it. Good luck with it.

My plan was not to part it out. I wanted a 261 to eventually replace the 216 in the wife's 48.

When that happens I will put in another engine in the truck. This truck has been on Kurt's farm for 43 years and part of the reason he gave it to me was because he knew I would do something with the truck.

Not real practical as a daily it has 4.56's and a locker rear end. It will see trips to the dump and such however.
