Did anyone watch the new spin off show American Restorations on the History Channel last night? It features the guy who does all the restorations for Rick on Pawn Stars, and is a spin off of tht show.

It had a slight bit of Hollywood goofiness (towing the golf cart with a truck and dumping one of the employees) but overall I thought it was not too bad. Nice to get a glimpse into how a professional restoration shop tackles old bikes, juke boxes, refridgerators, and anything else old.

What did you guys think?

Yeah I watched it also. [P

Seems to be a pretty good show if it doesnt get too silly. Hope it shows alot more of the restorations and stays away from the silly side of tv.

Time will tell.

Weird... I hadn't caught this at all. But came in last night and the g/f was watching Pawn Stars and they were haivng an old juke box restored and she had made the comment that it would be cool to see a show with him doing restorations and how he sources parts and such. Maybe going to have to check it out.

I can only mirror the comments above without seeing it. Seems alot of those shows eventually become less about what they are doing for work and more about the silly crap they get into and the drama of it all.

Yeah, when the Hollywood Producer guys get involved they think we need to see drama. When I watch a car or bike show I want to see serious building, not Mikey riding his moped into the side of his Dad's car and goofy stuff like that.

We watched Hot Rod TV the other night, a segment on SoCal Speed Shop, and it was totally enjoyable. Very seriously done, and lots of cool shots of old cars. They should all take a cue from that one. Chop, Cut, and Rebuild isn't too bad either.

I thought it was ok. That guy is really talented. funny thing, I found that exact same Hershey candy dispenser on one of my picking outings and let my picking buddy buy it for $20. He sold it to a shop for $50 and that guy sold it for $100.

Unfortunately like most of these shows it's more about the inflated hollywood prices and "what's it worth?" type B.S. instead of the work being done. They are also leaning towards the TV drama garbage as well. The stupid scripted skits on these shows do nothing but insult most people's intelligence. I wish they would merely stick to the facts about interesting items.

Well, I just laugh that stuff off. Like I know the camera is already in the people's house on pickers when they come to the door and then they are suddenly outside talking about the item, then back inside. sure it's scripted but still better than 90% of the crap on tv. Or just turn it off and go to the garage and build something.

Another new show, which I think is on Discovery is "Cafe Racers". Basically a show about various small shops that are turning old $200 70's jap bikes into really cool looking cafe racer deals. I'm not huge into bikes, but I like to watch how they do the fab work.

Speaking of motorcycles, one show I refuse to watch is Stealth Riders. From what I saw on one episode that I briefly watched, the gist is that they take bikes to various towns and locations, and do those stupid stunts on them, right on the street before the cops show up. Great example for other bikers, especially young ones. It is no wonder 99% of us hate those Japanese crotch rockets that zoom around us in traffic.:mad:
