Newb from Orygun(OR)

Hey y'all!

I'm a college student, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, here in Oregon and I want to build a rat rod. After attending the NW Toys for Tots gathering, up in Washington, I want to have something as cool or cooler than one of my new friends' Audi R8. Since I don't have the MSRP of $135,000 for a R8, I want to build a low budget rat rod that will make him slobber!

I have been doing some research and there are a **** load of old VW bugs up here, so I think I'm going to be modifying a bug body. My brother and a friend can help me find the motor,trans, and axel(?)...The only thing I don't know where or how to look for is the frame, help?....

oh, and I have never worked on a car....kinda sad, I know....

Since I read "This thread is worthless without pictures" here is the pic of the Audi R8 and what I want to build(drawing).

Welcome aboard from up North of you. There a some Bug guys here with nice builds (their cars, not necessarily them)

Welcome to the site, nice drawing. I am glad to see you have a vision.
Building your first car should be a lot of fun, (for us to watch).

Be sure to read all the build posts here, maybe you will get some great ideas to add to your own.

Welcome to RRR, hidethekeys. Glad you found us. Looks like you have an idea of what you want. The build threads should be full of ideas to get you started. We all had a first build. Take your time & ask questions when you need to when you get started. As for frames, lots of volks rods here have been done on VW pans. Would be the easiest for a first time build. My $.02.
