My daughter (16yrs old) was flipping channels in the other room yesterday and stopped on the Talledega Race - right at the red flag - Newman is stuck in his car. Of course it drew me into the room. So we watch the replays and listen to the chatter. Newman gets out OK. Someone eventually mentions restricter plates and the like. So my daughter asks what that means. I explain. She gets this look and sound like I just told her Santa isn't real. After that, she kinda starts asking questions as if NASCAR is the WWF.

The race starts again and of course there is another major wreck - end of race. Right then she asks: "How about drag racing? Is IT real?" Yes, drag racing is still real. I think she felt a little better about the world. :)

Nascar racing is real,
the part that the "allmighty nascar" doesnt seem to understand is that restrictor plate racing makes the sport more dangerous.

 I HATE RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING:mad:

Nascar... A man might as well throw a hand full of skittles in a commode and flush it.... it's just a bunch of pretty colors going around and around in circles....

Ever since Nascar and the NHRA have put the race for the cup BS, I turned off watching either one of them. The real racing in roundy round and drag racing is at the sportsman level. Some guy like myself and many other here working on our cars with small budgets, driving hours to get to track, and maybe once in a whi;e make enogh money to at least pay for our gas and food.

I think its a real joke that motel 6 supports the pros in the NHRA, in all of my years racing I have never ran into one of the pro teams staying at a motel 6.

Ryan even was making a point in his post wreck interview. If these drivers routinely walk away from crashes like that without even a shake up, then take the restricters off and let 'em race.

I quit watching NASCAR when they changed the banking at Bristol.

i have been an auto "enthusiast" almost all of my life, but have never been able to find an interest in the high-dollar corperate sponsership racing .....
it is entertaining for many, including my brothers, who can sit for ever talking of "points standings" etc. ....... just not my thing.....

give me some old-timey drags w/heads up racing action and classic cars!!![cl[cl

What gets me is the original idea of plate racing was to keep the cars from attaining the 200mph speeds that caused them to fly..... I don`t think it`s working... Ask Ryan and Mark. They both had upside down views Sunday.
I quit going to Talledega after sitting through my first green flag race in ten years. I fell asleep twice.

I wish they's take nascar back to its roots, just a few good ol boy, moonshine runners trying to show off whos "stoock" looking car was the best. how are these cars anywhere near looking stock or even street legal. At least back in the 70's you could still drive your stock car to the track and race (and hopefully drive it home....), not have to have it trailered in because its a trailer queen

Well I always said real race cars go to fast to turn left.

Naw. They just have to turn right to turn left. :)

I also had to try to explain what stock car racing is - while watching a bunch of not even close to stock cars .... in a stock car race?

Guess big St. Nick is more real than NASCAR....

(Don't get me wrong, I still respect you down home circle track guys)

Tell ya what, you get in a car at dega or tona and throw it off in the turn at 199 and tell me thats not racing then why stop drag racing at 1/4 mile. I agree restrictor plates suck but i believe the reason was for keeping the cars from going into the stands and injuring the spectators. Dont want much nascar anymore because the excitement level is way down. Thats why I am building my rod.

Naw. They just have to turn right to turn left. :)

Truer words have never been spoken.

I have a lot of respect for Ryan Newman (and ALL the other drivers too), he's a smart guy and his comment about NASCAR not thinking much of them as drivers was spot on. Safety should always be a priority, but competition is what makes a sport...well, a sport.
