When we lived on the east coast of Florida we had a boat we kept in Daytona Beach and we used it for deep sea fishing. Quite often we would be offshore and see a waterspout in the distance and would have to change course to avoid it.
One time I got caught over here on this coast in a storm and there were waterspouts all around our boat, and one caught the front end of the boat and I had no steering control for a few seconds as it took us where it wanted to go.
A friend of mine had one hit his boat while he was out and it sucked all the life jackets, lines, and other stuff out of the boat and left it empty.
I've got a picture of one I downloaded once. can't find it but it had 3 distinct internal shells or zones exhibiting different flow. it didn't make any sense from the aspect of thinking bi-flow as in a tornado with air moving up and other air moving down.
Saw something shaped exactly like that in OK. A thousand feet high.
No clouds. I've seen many many dust devils here in the south west. They look nothing like that did.
Ghost tornado?
Just before it rained here in Omaha today i wish i had a camera>
it was like a windless water tornado or maybe just a sky waterfall
The sky was clear below and cloudy above. it was raining off in the distance and there was zero wind.
You could see the water falling straight down and there was a ringlike collar where the precip looked like it was spilling out of a hole in the sky>
The collar was like the upper cloud layer was Niagara falls rolling inside over the rim of a circle and back outward into the lower layer of the cloud.
Also the clouds had radial ray like pattern as the moisture was drawn out of the clouds inward to the center then precipitating into rainfall through the center of the toroid.
At first it looked coo but upon further examination it was probably a once in a lifetime viewing... and I was driving...with no camera handy.
