The motels are booked a long ways out, but they are overrated anyways. Camp right on the salt at the bend in the road. There are everything from puptents to million dollar motorhomes, and there's always a party and good people to hang out with. You won't know a stranger there. If you need a shower hit up the Wendover truck stop or the KOA. 5 bucks and you're good for another day or two.

Bring lots of sunblock, water and a wide-brimmed hat. The sun is BRUTAL. Also make sure you get sunblock on the underside of your arms, chin and up your shorts. The sun reflects of the salt something fierce and it will burn Tripper Jr. in a hurry! ;)

Get some good duct tape before hand and seal up as much of your vehicle as you possibly can. Knock off your shoes really good before getting in the car or better yet take them off. Immediately after you leave the salt for the last time get to a car wash and hose it down. Then hose it down again when you get home. Wash, rinse, repeat! That salt is EXTREMELY corrosive, and while it makes for cool pics while you're out there don't leave it on long or you will regret it. It gets everywhere!

Most importantly get ready for a life-changing experience. You won't be the same after you come back. The salt is a sickness all it's own...

I'm heading there in August for Speed Week! Might only be able to stay for day or two, but at least I'll be able to cross it off my bucket list. I've been thinking about doing a belly tanker as my next build so I'll be gathering lots of info while there.

I just Google mapped it and it is about 2500 mile from here. I guess the best bet is to fly in to SLC and rent a car but I understand the rentacar companies won't rent one if it is going to the salt. (rusting)

We'll have to give it some thought.

Don,

Just think of a 16 passenger van. We'll pick up members along the way...share driving duties...listen to some good oldies and rock music all the way there.

Few rules for the van up front:
1. No one is allowed to eat beans for the entire week leading up to and during the trip.

2. If you have a blader problem you will need to bring your own jar...no sharing!

3. There will be no talk about work...conversation will be limited to women, rods and beer.

Please feel free to add more rules.

Dis sounds fun, will check summer plans before I say I'm in. Anybody know what the dates are for the Hot August nights, in Reno? I did that one year, and it was a blast!
