Anybody use pegboard in their shops? I'm thinking about installing some and am wondering how other people use them or if they do?

We use them in our shop. They are nice if you keep them organized. Right now, ours have sort of turned into "catch alls" with all manner of tools and parts hanging on them.

Me too!

I have pegboard on one wall from half way up to the ceiling. The guy B4 me had it all filled up & now I wish I'd taken a picture. I'm sorta @ a loss on how to proceed as well.

I have a little peg board too, but really it has never worked well for me. Good for junk collecting. But my tools are in those big red roll around tool boxes.

Naw ,, its a good way to junk up a wall, But, to each his own,,my Dad loved the stuff , he was the guy that drew an outline of the tool that hung there,an' every tool had its spot..LOL an' by god there better not be any empty spots when yer done workin'...!

I don't much like it. It mostly works only for the annaly organized person who uses their stuff very rarely. Otherwise it turns into a place where only things that never get used end up because the pegs fall out or you just don't put the stuff back.

I find that if I pile up all my tools inside the car until it's full and then start kicking things under it then I never have to go searching for anything. I also like to make sure all the cords are tangled together and there is something going across the roof to hit my head on. Not to mention anything with a magnet has to be covered with grind shavings. I've burnt off all my laces on my shoes with the plasma cutter so they slip off real easy and I've burnt lots of holes in my coveralls so I can snag anything I walk by. Also make sure you have three of every size bolt and nut cause you're gonna need four!:D

Oh yea, and make sure when you unload your car you put it so close to the bench that you can only get around it one way.

Somebody has been spying in my shop.

I'm a pegboard kind of guy. I have a few rollaway chests, but use them for stuff I don't use very often, like torque wrenches, allen wrenches, metric tools, etc. I keep everything else on a cart that I put a big piece of pegboard on the back of, and I have a lot of my everyday wrenches and stuff hanging up on that. I also have a big section of one wall done with pegboard, and on it is hanging stuff like hammers, greaseguns, pipe wrenches, etc.

I hate rummaging through drawers looking for a particular tool, so the common stuff is all hanging right up where I can see it and get it quickly.

You can see how I have my pegboard setup in the two pictures below.

Maddog just sent me a PM telling me I suck because my shop is so clean......of course he meant it as a joke. :) I told him the truth, that first picture was taken right after I spent two days cleaning and organizing the shop. It is normally a mess, like right now.

Thanks for the laugh Maddog, to make you feel better, here are a couple of shots of it how it normally looks.:D:D

Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'm in the mood to tackle this. I like Don's suggestion because I hate to rummage through drawers to find tools I use all the time. Think that's the way I'll proceed.

Shoebox!

Don,
Am I mistaken or are you already chopping the top on your new showbox?

I like my tools in the roll away. I can lock it. I have all the wrench and socket organizers so I know when one isn't home. All to often the bench is a foot deep in tools tho and I have to clean shop and start over. Like right now. I spent yesterday parting out a 37 Ford chassis and when rain threatened I just hauled it all in and dumped it.

At work I'm meticulous about my tool organization. I use a toolbox and just recently got a new roll cart to hold all my commonly used tools. I would feel unorganized if things were just hanging from the wall, although I have to admit that donsrods peg boards look good.
