FINALLY got around to picking up my 305 I dropped off ages ago. Had it bored .30 over, new cam bearings, new freeze plugs, hot tanked and the mains checked and had it decked all for 200.00 dollars.Seems like a good deal. Now the guy who does work said I should run cast pistons because I am not really looking to do anything radical with this motor.I did order my thumber cam for it too,the smallest one.Is he really right about running cast pistons..?

Good price on the machine work! Nothing wrong with cast pistons in a low compression street motor, that's what comes in them from the factory.
Summit has a rebuild kit with cast pistons, rings ,bearings and gasket set and oil pump for $275 but if you check around you can probably find it at a lower cost.

Cast and forged pistons require different bore clearances. Forged pistons expand more when hot and require clearance for such. If your machinist bored your block with cast pistons in mind, I would follow his recommendation. There's nothing worong with cast pistons in your application. I usually buy my pistons first and send them to the machine shop with the block. I would check piston to wall clearance after you get tour pistons to make sure that you are in spec.
