The ragtop on my Nova was a high end top & still in very good shape but the rear window is a lil fogged from being down all the time. Wondering if anyone has experience making them clear again. Saw the awesome job that headlight stuff did on Billy's headlights & starting wondering if something like that would work? I mean for $10... pretty cheap fix if that would do the trick! Anyone?!?

i dunno
maybe if you laid it on something perfectly flat like a sheet of glass or something and then hit it with wet 3000 grit paper then clear coated it?
or use that stuff i got at wally world for the clear?

If there is a cure for that, Bob, I don't know about it. Where I work (in a marine store) we sell cleaners for the plastic side windows and enclosures on boats, maybe one of those would work. I will be at work tomorrow and will read the labels on some of them and see what they say.

Since boats have a lot of those kinds of window enclosures and they are subjected to sun, salt, etc, there is the possibility one of the ones we carry will work. Might not make it perfect, just better.

I'll let you know what I find.

Here, Bob, I did a little quick reading on our website , try this one:

As we all know, Meguiars makes great stuff.

Bob, I worked today and looked at the various isinglass restorer type products we sell. That Meguairs one I posted seemed to be the one that claims it does what you want to accomplish.

I had lots of convertibles over the years with those plastic rear windows and it was always a problem to keep them scratch free. What happens is the dust on them scratches them when you put the top down. Some people put a towel over that portion to protect it, after making sure there is no dirt on it. But the only real way to keep them nice is to never put the top down. You also never want to put the top down without first unzipping the window and laying it safely out of the way. If you put the top down with the window zipped in place it folds it in half and really scratches it.

I think if you wash the window first and dry it with a microfiber towel, then use the Meguiars stuff, also with a microfiber, you might minimize the damage. Worth a shot anyway.

If the window zips out would it be possible to have it replaced?

Don,
THANKS... got the Meguiar's & it worked like a charm. I bought a ragtop because I wanted the top down & I barely raised it over the last 8 yrs. It got pretty grungy & this stuff did the trick. In the picture 1/2 & didn't have the top tightened down but will drive it around with it up to stretch all the wrinkles out! Thanks again!!!

I have had a few drop tops. The only real solution I found was to install a glass letter box window. Had to have one custom made. But they used to be available for certain models.

On a side note my wife drove our Valiant convertible to work. One fine winter day it had snowed and was somewhat cold. One of her co-workers, out of kindness, "scraped" the rear window to clear it off. As you can imagine the plastic window complete with snow was now in the back seat.

Very cool, Bob, glad it helped. I remember when I had convertibles in the old days, I would lay a towel down, unzip the window, lay it on the towel, then lay another towel on top of the window. Then I would put the top down on top of it all. As I recall, I would even roll up the window in the two towels to keep it from being scratched. Also, never put the window down when there is dust or dirt on it, those act like sandpaper.
