Your post counter cable might need lube. I'd start there. Otherwise your internet might not be making good connection - try pulling out the cartridge, blow on it a couple times, and re-insert it.

i got it, your post number changes everytime you post. if you go back to a old post it shows the current count, not the count when it was posted.

I disagree. The problem is probably the gears not meshing up. You will probably have to add a shim behind one of the gears. They have had a problem with many of those at around 800 posts. The factory has recognized the problem but no recall has been issued. If you choose to take it to a dealer, they may or may not consider it a warranty issue. I expect the newer members will not have these issues, as the factory has replaced the nylon gear set with good old fashioned brass gears. As Sam mentioned a drop or two of oil will help as well. I suggest a light weight synthetic, however if you have a traditional computer, just use Marvel Mystery Oil.

What BH is describing is much like the cheap plastic tensioners they put in the '90's Jag V8s. The dealers suggested not letting them sit to long between startups and cross your fingers when you do.
Hope this is helpful.

this thread reminds me of that senator a few years back who was presenting on the house floor and he tried to explain that the internet was a series of tubes... and online gambling blocked the tubes.. preventing peoples email from getting to them..

funny stuff

That Turbo Encabulator talk sounds to me a lot like the discussion over Billys
diesel problem. :D
