I had a flatty a few years back that was rebuilt. Then the car sold and the new owner wanted a 350 chevy. I got the engine/tranny and it had sat on his garage floor only a couple weeks. I put it on a sheet of plywood, tarped it and put a pickup canopy over it. 6 months later it was stuck, I suppose due to the darn East Texas humidity and condensation. I got it freed up and pulled the heads, cylinders looked just like those pictures. Fast forward to South Dakota and I drag home a 63 Fairlane that hasn't been turned over in at least 15 years, engine runs perfect and is now in my rpu. didn't even pull the heads.

my buddy in my car club found a 1913 star completely buried in sand with just the top of the cab sticking out.
he dug it out with a shovel
took it home
pressure washed the engine inside and out
put diesel in it for a few days
flushed it out and started it
runs fine.

Compression is highly overrated. Besides, it puts a lot of stress on the starter.

I wish i could take a picture inside the valve chamber, thats if you look in the intake runner you see the valve stem and guide, i have three that rusted together, i've never seen a brass guide covered in rust [S i filled it with WD40 and i'm curious to see if i can get the valves out[P or even move it [S

I think so, Star only made cars from 1922-1928. But hey, I bet Mr. T could have got it running with just a cutting torch.

My Dad has an IH garden tractor, maybe a '68 model. I tried to do a compression check on the old 7 horse and got nothing. When it spins over, there's no hint of compression but, it fires up and runs great. He pulls a 4X8 trailer around with it. No smoke or misfires. It must be some kind of experimental 0 compression engine they had back then.

If it's a Kohler, and it probably is, they have an automatic compression release and you can't get a compression test reading.

When pulling an engine that's, gonna sit for some time, the cylinders need lubricant of some kind sprayed in them to stop rusting.
When the weather changes drastically, cold to hot n muggy, the engine pulls moisture in the cylinders with open valves
