The bottom of my upright smoker was made from a car rim. I've burned out so many cheap tinfoil grills I decided to just fix the one I have. The problem is, I like to sear steaks at about 1000˚. :D

That looks like a nice size cast iron pot too!

Ah, black and blue they call that around here. I used to but I like the center hot now and not burned on the outside.

So whatcha got cooking in the bean pot Tripper?

This place is amazing..... Start off with a picture of a hillbilly fire pit end up with a full on conversation of steaks and where to go to get a good one! Never ceases to amaze me!
 
I'm guessing the rim grill is a little heavy to be loading and unloading very often.


As for steaks, you sear them at as high heat as possible and then let them cook more at a lower heat if you want it cooked through. B.E.D. mentioned that place puts them on a 500˚ plate - that's actually cooking it also. And in my opinion, burnt is a flavor - but like all seasonings, a little goes a long way.
