Ok, nuther noob Q?

1930 model A

IF I go with the normal Leaf Spring set up in the front, if I remove a leaf or two will it lower the front end?

Never mind, figured out my answer, even if it does lower it, its not a good idea! doing that will decrease my clearance between the axle and the frame to a minumum, and that could cause some damage hitting a few bumbs......

hhmmmm whats a nother way to lower the front end? I know about a 4 and 5" drop axle, are there bigger drop axles out?

WAIT! guess you cant really go more then 5 on the axle, for any more then the steering linkage will hit the frame...............[S

maybe a drop spindle? is that poosable?

there are tons of options a 3-4 inch drop axle would be plenty, with a reversed eye spring will lower it more, front "Z", suicide perch, ect. they dont make drop spindles for a traditional straight axle. a lot of what needs to be done depends on how low you want to go

Ill be going wiht a front Z frame of 4"

I have not heard of a "reversed eye spring" Ill have to look in to that

THANKS[cl

heres a pic of the frame its a 4in Z in the front, and an 8 in the rear

Now heres a pic of a car with the same frame and it sits too high for my liking

I want anout 4-5 in clearance

Im going to bag the rear end, so I can adjust that

ok I THINK I have it figured out:confused:

I think Ill go with a 5 inch I beam drop axle,

reversed eye spring (drop 1) and

split wishbones with a behind the axle mount for the spring (which will give me another inch drop)

So that will drop the front end 7 inch[cl[ddd

IF this is TOO low Ill raise the front end with larger wheels:D

When they say drop it into the weeds....

I don't think they meant plucking the weeds out from between the cracks in the road....LOL... just kidding....sounds like you've got it together...B.E.D has more experience with those areas than I....wouldn't want you to have to rethink it when it's done.....good luck...[cl

With that combo you will probably need to notch the frame for spring clearance.

Really?

Im not really changing the spring movement, wouldnt it move the same even if I used a stock axel and right side up spring mount, the flex would be same wouldnt it? I didnt think using a drop axle, mounting spring to wish bones, or the reversed eye would cause the spring to flex into the frame...............

ok ScHoOl me........like I said Im the NOOB [S

If you use a spring with less arc than a stock Model A spring the spring can contact the frame when using a stock Model A crossmember. Some reversed eye springs are flatter than stock.

I think when you say you want to lower the front end you mean you want the cab to be closer to the ground . You can use a completly stock front suspension and still get your cab as low as you want by making your zee (front and rear ) deeper . That's why frames are zeed in the first place .Your frame looks like it is set up to use the spring in it's stock location just as Henry designed it to be used . Not rocket science , just the cut zee loose , add a filler piece , plate it up and your done . don't know about the rear bag thing, looks like that frame is set up too use a buggy type spring .
