reusing head bolts?

What are ya'lls thoughts about reusing headbolts on a low compression Ford banger ? Just looking to save the money of course.

I'd reuse 'em on that. But then, I might jump off a bridge just because my friends did.

I've never had a problem re-using them....

on stock motors....if you build anything stout you might consider replacing them or if the motor has been overheated or is prone to blowing head gaskets.... oh...or if it's a diesel like Torchman's.....LOL..

I reuse them on all stock rebuilds.
The way my economy is right now, I'd probably use them on a 12 to 1 motor but, my wife accuses me of always going over the edge

Seriously, I've always reused my head bolts and never an issue.... If I was going to spend the money for new ones, I'd check on ARP's anyway....don't have to get the stud type. They sell oem type too...... a matter of Economics.....

ya, what sarge said. Also be sure to clean all the treads in both the block and the bolts.
Also a dab of oil on the threads and the bearing surface of the bolt head helps give you correct torque reading, or so I've been told and have always done.

Honestly, for something like that, as long as they haven't been torqued down a bunch of times & stretched out, I would reuse them as well.

Certain engines (usually aluminum heads) call for new bolts when doing head gaskets......On something like a SBC, I have always reused them.

however, after being stranded at 10000 feet on my snowmobile one winter I do not take the chance.

I always figure the new bolts pay for themselves with a single tow bill being avoided.
