As u probably heard... Ike hit Galveston, Tejas with a pretty big flood surge. Our office there is a 1900 storm survivor as it sits about 12 ft off the ground. Flood waters came up about 7 ft. high during Ike. One of our agents parked his nice TR-6 in the garage for protection but... it got flooded over with saltwater. Any suggestions on how to proceed with trying to save his car or is it toast!?!?

Thanks in advance,
BoB

As much as I hate to say it, I think the only thing that might save it would be a frame-off resto.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the immagination but reguardless, saltwater is very fierce and highly corrosive.

Usually they just dry them out, sell them at auction and they end up on car lots in Minnesota where the local penny pinchers who can't pass up a cheap price buy them and watch the roofs rust off. Happened to a friend of mine. Sorry, I don't have anything helpful to offer about taking care of the problem.

I scuba dive, and the cure for salt water, is fresh water. But then you have to worry about the cure for water. which is going to be a rebuild of all the oil filled cast iron parts, and bearings, probably replace the wiring, and interior. Even then, things will rust out in short order, from salt water trapped in between layers. I am with DA34Guy.

2 bad!!!

Yeah... I was afraid of that. There was some hitch with his insurance & they're tryin' to disallow him. It was a very nice car too & had just been redone for about a year. He's sick about it & so am I. As much as I love rust... this sucks!!! Thanks for everyone's advice!

As a side note... all of Galveston now smells like dead shrimp!!! Pewwweeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
