There is a recycler kind of junk yard here. He doesn't sell much. I have been trying to find someone there for a couple months. Today the gate was open and I see a truck loading scrap so I walk back in there. And the kid gives me a walk about. I must have seen a dozen or more prewar pickups, even a 32 Ford, but it was just in pieces. Tons of cool stuff. Well, we come by this old school bus and the door is open and I poke my head in, it looks familiar, HOLY CARP, it is my old hippy bus I last saw in 1983. I had moved and parked it at a friends farm long termish. His daughter broke in and found some old checks, forged a few and cashed them so I had to let my bank press felony charges or pay for it. After I sent their daughter to prison I didn't have the heart to go back and then the guy dies.
Well, the amazing part is that it is just like I left it, boxes of Harley parts, there was the stock aircleaner and 2 into one muffler we ripped off my buddy's brand new 1980 Sturgis all kinds of old model A wheels, boxes of Hemmings and Easy Riders from the early 80s. What a trip.

There's Black Helicopters in those Black Hills! BTW I got my '35 International cab just south of you, Willowbilly3, in Nebraska.

Black light!

Willowbilly,
Black hills, black heliocopters, wonder if your black light was still working?

Agreed! Twilight Zone! I see you are in S.D. WB3, do you know of a native american named Jesse? He had a '55 Chevy gasser.

I believe he lived on the Rez and didn't mention a town.He was on another board and entertained us with wit, stories and photos.
A type breaking anomaly for sure but he related a little about
the potential for violence on the rez and when he faded from the board i always wanted to know what became of him.

If the yard you visited was on the rez, I know what you mean. My brother in Kansas is among a select few that can go to a private junkyard owned by a Native American. It was definately a different vibe and this place isn't on a reservation, just out in the middle of nowhere.

Jesse put up pix of a place in S.D. where during WW2 the military collected old cars and arranged them on the prairie. Then dropped flour bags on them for bombing practice. They were still there as of 4 or 5 years ago.

HE was also on Olskool he went by 55chief I belive seemed to be a kool guy with alot of pics. One of the last threads he posted was showing old cars used to stop river erosion.

Lots of old cars were used for erosion control in these parts. I remember once when I was a kid they cleaned out a couple acres of old cars and hauled them to the river. I was there before the had many of them pushed in and the one I really remember was a 56 Pontiac 2 door hardtop. It looked like it came off a car lot in 1960, just imacculate, brown and white, nice interior, all the glass still in it and all that shiney trim.

I grew up in western Nebraska. They had lots of cars in the river banks of the North Platte. We'd go down there with our 22s and had a good ol time just shooting them up. Like you said most of them were complete cars before they dumped em in. Probably didn't drain the oil or fuel or anything. I did take some emblems off of some of them and still have them today.
