Actually, BED, my neighborhood is as uncool as it gets. I'm fortunate to have been around when a lot of experimentation was happening in drag racing. Your pic depicts the period perfectly.

I suspect it's a maintenance or failure issue... dead magneto, leak-down test or something of that nature...
