Sad to say... ratty's are on their way out. How do I know?! I read it in car kulture DeLux. Yep... they say the kids make the scene what it is & the kids are starting to say paint is kool on kustoms. Haha!!! How many kids do u see drivin' a real kustom (other than Gastrick & his Pops :D:D:D)?!? So you guys are all goin' the way of the Dino's & ummmm... I'm goin' with ya's!!!:eek::eek:

i have every intention of painting my car and making it as clean and pretty as i can.
if i had the skill and the money .
it would be museum quality.
of course im gonna hafta settle with a 50-50 body

looks great at 50 yards going 50 mph.....;)

There may be some truth to it, Bob. Every fad has it's day (and I use the term fad with affection), and cars evolve. Just like we look back on the cars of the 70's and wonder what the h*** we were thinking, I think the rusty look will start evolving into a different, more finished form.

Same with T buckets that had brass lamps, grille shells, etc. You rarely see one that way today. Or how about cars that had huge fender flares to cover tires sticking way out? As car owners age their tastes change a little and that changes the way their cars look. None of what I said is in any way looking down on rats, but just a fact of how cars change and fads go away.

as a kid in L.A. in the 60's i dont remember ever seeing a primered hot rod or chopper.
i do remember a lot of chrome and really bright paint jobs.
now of course i WAS a little kid .
so a colorful car would stick in my mind.

They can say what they what in a mag. I will do it my way and make it fun to drive.

The new fad is the gassers and already there are the anti gasser people out.

I never listen anyway. That what I been told.

I'll keep my end up of the "fad" ...had a primered goat in 71.....always liked primer.....

Me too... I drove all my cars in primer back in the day & only painted them when I was fixin' to sell. I spent all my loot on mags & speed parts but for some strange reason I went through a lot of rear tires!!![ddd:D[S

no

say it ain't so.

my 30 something dodge is gonna be somewhat rusty, guess l am no longer on the cutting edge of what's ''IN''.

later

I say good riddance to all those low budget cars, now we can get back to building high dollar show cars. [cl Time to dig out my 'Do NOT Touch' signs, feather duster, and lawn chairs!

...Hold it...
I don't have high dollars, signs or a duster. Guess I'm gonna have to keep having fun building low brow cars that I drive as daily's.

I'm thinking the rat's outta the bag and it ain't gonna go back in that easy. A lot of guys have figured out that there is a lot of fun to be had building a budget rod and it's something that a regular Joe can do with limited tools and resources.

The internet has opened our eyes...

Don't forget the crybaby dolls.

Back in the old country in the early 70's my english 'Hot Rods' were all in primer because I couldn't afford power and paint,so all I'm doing now is reliving my youth.;)

"rats" ARE a fad... just like every other "fad," the people who were into rats, and low buck hotrods before the "fad" became such, will still be building them and driving them...the fad-followers with their big budgets ($30,000 e-bay ratrodders:rolleyes:) can go follow the next fad...the ratrod fad followed the chopper fad IMO - and the real bikers are still on their bikes...;)

i for one will still be lovin the low buck back yard rods with good engineering built on limited budgets, because that is what i enjoy...let the fad be gone![ddd[ddd

I came up next to a 40 Chevy sedan last summer, not bad looking from the back except some hideous purple paint and painted bumper. As I passed and looked over I about barfed, it had frenched dual rectangular tail lights. Note to self--stay away from fads.
I might paint my car, I'm not leaving it unpainted just because that's the fad anyway. And it is built like hotrods have always been, no laying frame in the parking lot or goofy crap hanging on it.

That may put a lot of good parts back on the market [cl
Wait a minute, this is the BS lounge, I'm on to ya Bob [ddev
