OK,

Stupid Question Time!!!!

Need to get a speedometer for the Dodge. Are all cable input sizes the same? Also do speedometers all work the same? I know you change the gear in the trans to compensate for axle/tire size/etc. Just confused on the rest!

Does this mean it will be moving soon under its own power? =)

From what I have seen, most are square drive, however the threaded ends that hold the cable into the speedo and trans are not all the same.

It has moved under its own power for a long time!!! since a couple weeks after I got it. Just not fast enough to need a speedometer. Stuff to build panhards should be in in a couple of days then I am going to try some down the street movement I think............. hopefully no one of importance sees it.......... [ddd [ddd

Dirty Rat is right, the threaded ends are different sometimes. Places like United Speedometer can make you up special cables with the correct ends on them to work with most transmission/speedometer combos.

What is funny is that I never had a speedo or even a tach in my 23 and drove it everywhere for 3 years that way. My 27 has both a tach and a speedo but in over 20 years I never went to the trouble of hooking up the speedo. I go by tach readings and just stay slower than everyone else on the road. :D

Thought about using my phone GPS or nothing at all, but I have a led foot so I know how the nothing would wind up....

It's that big round gauge on your dashboard that always has the needle buried on the right side of the dial, Bob.:D Bet you thought that was the "fun meter'. :D

Don

Nah, that's the one that never worked so he set it to that side to make it look cooler [cl

Kidding budddddy!!!!

Haha... the only car I own that has a speedo is my Chevelle! Always just used the tach & how fast I was passing other cars! [ddd:eek:[ddd

I use a courtroom and certified gov't calibration.

Exhibit A. :D

Ummmm... what is a speedometer?!?

More commonly referred to as a ticket estimator...... Big gauge on the dash with some numbers, once you cross the 70 marker, double the number and that is about what the ticket costs....

and Doc, I try to stay away from that certain unit.... MaverickMk thats my thoughts on those units. I will probably just use a portable GPS but would rather have something more permanent.
