Is welding and pinning the universal joints the best way or just welding. I lean to pinning and welding.
I have cross steering and not the old style so I am not subject to the significant kick back of the old style.
Have everything in place. Only two universals and they is only 6" of shaft between them. 3/4" steel shafting. Angle is about 15 deg.
Rod is 1928 ford PU / 302/C4/8" rear on Boxed A frame. Straight spring over front axle, cross steering box on drivers side, no power steering.
If pinning recommended, what type pin (split or solid or hardened) and what size for 3/4 shafting and 3/4 universals.
The spline end of the universal connected to the box has a #8 grade bolt through it. 1/4". The others can be welded and you can still get the column out if you had to. That is the only one that has a spline on it. The vendor called for welding them.
Comments appreciated.
