here`s a shot of my first stromberg rebuild , before and after , this is what i`ve been doing while on the computer , nice big workspace with no junk on it ....hard to find a spot like that in the shop.

I read a while back that the secret to making strombergs not leak is to use modern needle valves and also to make sure the mating surface between the body and top are absolutely flat. I think they even did some tapping with a brass hammer to straighten the one in the article. Fuel pressure also has to be kept down in the 4 pound range I think also.

They sure do look great on an engine though, especially when you use more than one. :D:D

I got the carbs from an old guy I know , I don`t know who rebuilt these carbs before, but they where extremely precise , every part is stamped front , center and rear ,for each carb and are unbelievably smooth , the guy told me they came off a race car with a buick straight 8 in it , the rebuild kits came from Charlie Price , the rest is a secret

looking good 24. i have a question though, whats so special about stromberg carbs, is it just the tradition? there are alot of other 1 barrel carbs that are more recent and cheaper that i'd guess would work as well.

I believe its because they are the carbs that where most used when hot rodding began, how good they are I don`t know , these are my first , I can tell you they are easy to rebuild , they look cool , and they`re expensive ...`24

Yep, they were the hot rodders choice from the very beginning and some very fast dragsters and other drag cars of the day ran up to 8 of these, even on blowers. But as Dodge mentioned, they are getting more scarce and costly. I think they flow like between 150-175 cfms each, so three of them give you just about the right carburation on most flatheads or sbc engines.

A lot of these were even converted to run on alcohol and maybe even nitro.

Arguably carbs like the Rochester 2G are a better, more modern design, but the strombergs still have that certain romance about them.

as carbs go, 450 isnt out of line. it would probably cost 200 or more to buy a refurbished rochester at auto zone. and who knows where or how it was redone. now if you're going to put 6 of em on your motor, its a big bite of the budget, but since theyre new, they should work pretty good out of the box.

made a little progress on the setup while I surf , some updated pics...

That looks great 24D! I like the way the linkage is setup not like on my 'chester Bs. I'd like to switch to 97s but at $450 a pop for 3 of the new ones.....ouch! My engine was only $250. I look at mine and it looks like poo!

thats actually the choke linkage , I ordered the parts to build the throttle linkage , hasn`t got here yet , gonna be a busy setup when finished , but I like mechanical things , lots to look at.....24

now this is funny, i just got done reading the thread on the kb just before coming here and this reminded me that i posted this same new carb info on there and got told in no uncertain terms that this was old news. i have run 2 of the holley 94's on my flatty for about 12 years now and love them. they are so easy to rebuild and i know where i can get the rebuild kit for 15.00 bucks! a little side note, take the center squirter out and drill the 2 holes a little bigger and you get rid of that flat spot alot of these carbs have. also yes, in the old days they did run these on just about every kind of fuel that was available. just take a look at the first swamp rat dragster. if i am not mistaken it had 6 of them on nitro.
