So I had family up to visit on Monday. One of them was my Grandpa. Some of the stories he has some days can really light up my day. This day was nothing different.

He told me right before he went in to the service he had bought a car. He drove it around for a while and he said that he felt like he was king. He had it for a few months before he left. A few days before he was going to ship out he was backing it in the barn one of his neighbors came by and saw him.

He told my Grandpa, “you don’t want to do that, by the time you get back it will be all rusty and what not from sitting. You should just sell me that car.”

After a short while of arguing back and forth the man goes, “Tell you what, I will give you double what you have in it”.

Grandpa sat for a second and thought, ya know I could really use the money, so he sold it.

Yesterday as he was talking to me he was said, “man I really wish I could give that guy his $75 back and have my car back”

It was a ’32 Ford Coupe.

He then told me, the moral of the story is don’t let anyone push you to do anything you don’t want to do or sell anything you don’t want to.

I love hearing those guys talk about the old days like that.

And by the way he has a valid point.

Grandpa

Hugh "grandpa" was born in 1900 died in 1993. In 1992 he seen a dirt bike out on his property so he saddled his horse with his 30/30, well after out riding for awhile he caught up to the kid on the bike the kid stopped to say something ??

Well Hugh pulled his 30/30 and stuck it in the kids face and told him if I ever see you on my property again I'll pull the trigger, well the kid hauled butt back to the hole he cut in the fence.

Well a few days later Hugh had to appear in court for threating the kid with a gun.

The judge said let me see if I am getting the full story here, and he asked Hugh is all this true you saddled up your horse chased this kid down and stuck a gun his face.

Hugh said yes your honor that is what happened.

The judge looked at the kid and asked did you cut this mans fence and thats what he did to you he stuck his gun in your face and threatened to kill you.

The kid said yes your honor thats about it.

The judge said, son the next time you think about cutting another mans fence you had better stop and think, because if a 92 year old can saddle his horse, chase you down on your motorcycle and threaten you with his rifle you had better do what he tells you, because thats one tough old man you don't want to screw with case dismissed.

Don't ever think your to old to stand your ground !!!

Iva "grandma" was born in 1898 the stories those two told me I'll remember forever...Hugh was the peace keeper for a period check out his ride..LOL

My grandfather always had $50 cars he would buy from the junkyard and drive them until the wheels fell off.

My dad tells a story of riding in one of these when the front wheel, brake hub and all, came off and rolled away. They were in the middle of a busy parkway in Brooklyn. They left the car on the side of the road and went to go get another $50 car.

It was a '49 Ford Woodie.

Thanks for the share guys, reminds me of some of the story's my grandpas told thru the years.

I wish I had been smart enough to really sit down and talk to my Dad and my Grandpap before they died, but I was too young and dumb to think of doing it. There is so much I would like to know now but will never be able to talk to them about. :(

Yes, thanks for sharing those....

Never had the chance to talk old stories with either of my grandfathers...one died when my dad was 13 and my mom's dad died when I was 13...never got to share that type of stuff with them...
I hope to be the kind of G/pa that can tell my grandkids those kind of stories...God willing, I'll have that opportunity...right now, just share what I have with the kids around town that aren't too busy playing video games and want to see and hear it.... or ramble on the RRR to the youngin's that will listen...lol :D

Both my grandfathers were gone before I was old enough to really know them. My father was gone at an early age, but he had a story we liked as little kids...

My grandfather and his 5 sons built grain elevators. So, Dad is working up high and needs to relieve himself. He goes to the roofside and does his business... at the same moment, his brother (Bruce, working on the ground floor) takes a minute to do the same... Bruce feels a little moisture and without thinking, he says, "HEY! Who's p***ing down my neck!??" Dad looks over the side and hollers back, "I AM!"

It doesn't take much to amuse an 8 year old. :D

A lady friend of mine is into geneology and is on that Ancestry.com site. She did a family tree for me and got results on my Mom's side back to about 1582 and on my Dad's side back to about 1886. For some reason there was a lot more info on my Mom's side than my Dad's. (I always thought that side was a little shady :D)

It was pretty interesting to read, but there was no information on where my ancestors might have buried the family treasure. :(:D

My mom really gets into geneology stuff. She has traced my family back to Germany in the 1700s. One of her friends is far more into it than she is. She also has German blood and has even went to Germany to do further research.

I love talking to my Grandfather. He tells me stories all the time about back in the day. He actually got his license when he was 14 because he drove the milk truck I believe and the school bus if I remember right when he was a junior and senior in high school!
