bought my wife a volvo xc90 about 2 years ago, she put about 6o,000 miles on the car and she said she heard a howling from the rear end. I took it out for a spin and yep, between 30 and 55 underload it howls. last year I replaced the wheel bearings, both rear $1000. So I took it to my local mech and asked him to see what he thinks. the sensor for the all wheel drive in the rearend is going out. Said to take it to the dealership. The volvo tech put it on the lift, comes back tells me its the rear wheel bearings and it will be $1000. I said O.K. but if it does not fix it I will not be paying for it and I had just installed news ones a year ago. He goes back out and puts it back on the lift. 30 min later he tells me $5610 to replace said sensor. turns out the only thing you can replace on this rearend is the bearings and rotors. What were the engineers thinking[S . I know I heard all the crap from my buddies about forign cars. But holly** that is crazy, if my wife did not love this car more than me I would be doing an airbag test with this thing[ddd
