This Can't Be Right

I'm thinking there is something wrong with the camber angle of this axle. Is'nt there supposed to be positive camber or an I out to lunch?..

What is that hanging down from around the spring perch ?

The steering looks confusing from that angle.

That was my first thought, but how can you tell ? They look the same to me either way.

You must be talking about the panhard bar?

spindles should be parallel to the ground , if they`re pointing up they are upside down

Ok, thought I'd checked, guess not. If I drank I would have an excuse, or maybe thats my problem...I should start.

I almost did the same thing on my first straight axle , but it`s a mistake i`ll never make again , no big deal , it`s how you learn

Yep swap sides. I've done this too.

The kingpins are at an angle,this angle gets built into the spindles.
Assembled correctly,they just about offset each other.
Put them on upside down,you get around double the angle.

Easy mistake to make with after market spindles.
The factory ones have the steering arms as part of the spindle.

And make sure the needle bearings are on the correct side of the axle.

I think they go on the bottom.

Thats ok, alot of folks don't think my wheels are on tight.

Yep, upside down. We've all done it at least once. Looks like you are using '49-54 Chevy spindles there? If so they should look like this when installed the right way.

Got um right side up now...MMMMM..what a difference it makes to do it right.

Depends on the frame.

99.9% of the time,rear end goes under the frame.


I'd love to build one with the frame running under both axles.
Just to play with the "experts" minds.

Oh, and yes the rear axle goes on top of the frame.
