my father in law hooked me up with the local retired old school wrecker/old school dirt tracker.

Once the two old coots caught up on times long past, "DOC" looked over at me and asked what I was building, once the words "1930 ford rat rod" came out of my mouth, this old dog was more then happy to help me out! I said im looking for a 454 and a t400 transmission, no sooner I said that, he pointed to a container truck and said "Ive got one in there, eng and trans, all together" "what else you need?"..............hahahaha "9in locker?" Doc: "yeah I gotta few"

talk about jackpot!!! and most of this stuff hes going to give to me for a bargan, cause his wife is on his tail about getting ride of most of this "junk"

so....................today was a good day!!![cl[cl

See, us old dudes aren't so bad after all ! :p Good score. He has probably finally come to the conclusion he won't ever be able to use all that stuff so it might as well go to someone who will appreciate it and use it.

And we want pictures ! :D

ok so I finally got to get back over to Docs and was going to make a deal on the engine/transmission and a 9",

well come to find out what he had in the container was the 9" its a 28 spline with disk brakes, but its got 4:86 gears:eek: waaaaay to tall for what I want. he wants 500 for it, I may still take it and swap ou the gears.

The 454 he has is in a old motorhome. Doc says it ran when he picked it up. Looked it over, it all dirty and nasty (reminded me of some women I know[ddd), I yell to doc "how much?" 1200 bucks Doc says................

I hop down out of the RV, Doc says Ill have my guys come down here, drag it up to the shop, and pull it out for 1200. That in it self is a deal, but I guess the cheap azz in me comes up with this. "tell you what Doc, how about I come down here with my sawzaw, and cut it out my self for a 1000 that way your boys dont have to pull it or drag this up to the shop. Doc thinks about for a few, he says "DEAL, as long as you dont use a tourch, this thing would go up in flames in a heart beat"

SO there you go, hehehehe I gotz me a 454/T400 for $1000 smackers[cl
AND I get to cut up a motorhome[ddd

Ill be sure to take pics of the doner and operation!

Exactly, it's made to produce more torque in the low RPM range. Most RV's don't go over 3,000 RPM's, and need a lot of torque off idle to get them moving.

hehehe If I used that 9 in with 4:86 gears and this RV camed 454:eek::eek:

hahaha WOW!! what a ride that would be

Yep.. I had a built 468 chevy in my 70 GTO with 4.56 gears out back..it had 325/50's on the back and could melt them at anything under 60mph..Lots of fun[cl:D

What a great deal! It's always fun to find someone, especially locally that has parts for builds... looking forward to the build thread!

With that powertrain you may need to build some wheelie bars. The torque is gonna be wild, but so will the amount of gas you may use. But this isnt a touring ride, it's a cruiser, so go for it and have a ball.

While those 4.86 gears are a little steep, it isn't impossible to run them on the street. I ran 4.88's in my 68 Mustang with 11 inch M&H slicks, and I am running 4:30's in my 27 with a 29.5 inch rear tire. Not great on the highway but I LOVE it around town. [ddev

Slip a little more cam into that 454 to take advantage of the gears and you will be in hog heaven. (or is that RAT heaven?) :D
