using a bolt to press in kingpin bushing

my buddy told me he uses a bolt to press in kindpin bushings.
and i thought it made sense.
and i found this in a 1929 copy of popular mechanics.

Being the cheap fool that I am, I really like that idea! Never thought of that! However, my spindles are in the machine shop as we speak. It was a bear trying to get the old bushings out and the new bushings need to be reamed to size for the new kingpins to slide in properly. You'll need either a specialized or adjustable reamer. I called different machine shops, got a decent price and let them handle it. For me, this was one of those times it just made more sense to farm out the job.

good tip! i have to admit i just drive them in sometimes. i like using a bolt for removing the pilot bushing sometimes when they are stuck. just run in a tap, them run in the bolt and it pushes them out. i read about that several years back and love it.
